Mod Index (Categorized)
« on: June 10, 2011, 12:47:10 PM »

First time playing Starsector with mods? See here!

If you want your mod added to this list, refer to this.
If you are looking for mods for earlier versions of Starsector, continue reading here.

The mod index lists mods that have been added to it by request of the mod author.
It features mods that are considered release-ready by their maker. Mods are listed in alphabetical order within their category.
Mods must be compatible with the current version of Starsector to make it on this list, and they may be removed if they fall significantly behind (current cutoff is 0.97a).

Instructions on how to install a mod can be found here.

Key: [SS version] Mod Name and Link by Author
Versions tagged in blue will run in the current release of Starsector. Orange entries are outdated but might still work if you tweak their mod_info.json - use them at your own risk! Versions in red are very unlikely to function correctly.

Standalone Utilities:
These are clients and user-made programs with a variety of functions that run on their own and can be launched outside of the game, like mod managers.

Feature overhauls:
These mods drastically change how the game looks and plays, and may be incompatible with other mods that rely on those features working like they do in vanilla.

Megamods:
These massive mods add many new gameplay features to the base game while remaining compatible with standard faction mods.

Content Expansions:
These mods add new content to existing factions.

Faction Mods:
These mods add new factions, systems, ships, and weapons to the base game. You can have multiple faction mods active at a time.
Libraries:
These mods extend the game's modding capabilities and are required by some other mods, which won't function properly (or at all) without them. They will function alongside total conversions.

Portrait Packs:
These mods add more selectable portraits for the player character, and potentially add more portraits for officers and factions as well. These will usually work even if extremely outdated, though you'll need to edit mod_info.json to get them to run.

Flag Packs
These mods add flags for the player to choose from for their faction. These will usually work even if extremely outdated, though you'll need to edit mod_info.json to get them to run.

Miscellaneous Mods:
These mods add new features to the game but usually cannot be safely removed from an active game, and they might not work in combination with mods of the "feature overhauls" category.

Utility mods:
These mods add new features to the game and can be toggled on/off at will. They will usually function alongside total conversions.

Let us know if we're missing any, OR if we got your intention wrong and you would prefer we shift your mod to a different section.

Important Note: Also, if you want your mod moved from the modding forum into this Mods specialized subforum, see below. Moving the mod is part of adding it to the mod index.

Looking to play with mods?

You've come to the right place! The mod index (above) lists mods that have been added to it by request of the mod author. It features mods that are considered release-ready by their maker and will work on the current version of the game.

To get ready to install and play with mods, please read this post: Adding mods to your game: First Steps

Short instructions: To install a mod, download it and unzip it into the "mods" directory. On Windows, it's in the installation directory. On Mac, it's right inside the application package - right-click on the application and select "Show Package Contents" to see it. On Linux, it's in the starsector directory. You can then select which mod(s) you want to run with in the launcher.

Each mod comes in a zip or rar archive file. Should the game not display them in the launcher, please check if:
1. you put the archived file directly into the mods folder. (Solution: Extract the folder contents)
2. you extracted the contained mod folder into a new folder, thus making the game unable to see it. (Solution: make sure the mod path is correct)

Refer to the instructions post for further help.

Would you like to have your mod added to the index?

Great! A certain amount of content is required to be listed - but if you feel the mod is ready, it probably is!
The actual process is very simple:
  • Test your mod to the point where you have a reasonable expectation of it working on the latest version of the game
  • Create a mod post in the modding subforum
  • Ensure your mod post has a download available that is hosted somewhere else (For example: GitHub, Onedrive, Google Drive) as forum post attachments get purged in regular intervals
  • Ensure your mod post title includes the latest version number of the game that the mod will work with
  • Wait a bit for your mod to get some engagement, downloads and posts in the thread.
  • PM a moderator with a short message containing:
    • A link to your mod thread in the modding subforum
    • The target mod index category of your mod
  • The moderator will then move your mod from the "modding" to the "mods" subforum and add it to the index under the desired category.

Please make sure to keep the version tag in your mod title accurate. We keep this index up-to-date using the version tags in your thread's title.
If your mod works in the current version, please update your title accordingly.

Looking for old mods?

If you are looking for mods for very early versions of Starsector, angrytigerp has kindly put together a list featuring mods for the versions 0.61a and 0.62a here.
For other versions: Below are archived posts of the mod index at each major version. Please note that these are link repositories, the mod in question may have been updated to a later version in the meantime; you are not guaranteed to find a download to the titled version by clicking the link.

Archive: 0.65.2a
Please refer to the main page for up-to-date-mods.

This post is a final list of mod entries for game version 0.65.2a in March 2015.
Clicking a link does not guarantee you will find a mod that works for 0.65.2a.
It is much more likely to lead to a download of the mod for the current game version if the mod was updated in the meantime.

The list is provided for archival purposes. Some of the mods may not have been updated to the current game version and have been delisted from the up-to-date index.
They will remain accessible through this post.

Should you be unsure if the mod you downloaded works for the version you are looking to play, extract it into the mod folder like a normal mod and check in the game launcher by clicking "mods".

Key: [SS version] Mod Name and Link by Author

Total Conversions:
These mods drastically change how the game looks and plays, and are incompatible with other mods (with the exception of library and utility mods).

Compilations:
These megamods add new factions and gameplay features to the base game, and often pair well with faction mods.

Factions:
These mods add new systems, factions, ships and weapons to the base game. You can have several faction mods active at a time.

Mission-only:
Libraries:
These mods extend the game's modding capabilities and are required by some other mods, which won't function properly (or at all) without them. They will function alongside total conversions.

Utility mods:
These mods add new features to the game and can be toggled on/off at will. They will function alongside total conversions.

Miscellany:
These mods add new features to the game but cannot be safely removed from an active game.
