VALENTINE CORPORATION
This thread is currently just a small preview. I'm still fine-tuning the ships I have currently (graphics-wise and statistics-wise), creating new ones, and adding the faction. So there's not a download QUITE yet, but there will be one tomorrow, if not the day after. (Also, I will be adding onto the release when the first version comes out, of course) Until then, enjoy the "graphics."Huzzah, another faction mod. Don't get too excited at the moment. It's mostly just kitbashing/frankenships currently. But I do indeed hope to add new weapons, as well as my own custom work when I'm not feeling like such a lazy procrastinator. Don't get the wrong impression though, I'm (mostly) pleased with these kitbashes myself, and with luck, you will be too.
Lore & Backstory(Don't have to read this of course. It's just if you want some history)The Valentine Corporation originally began as a small company, manufacturing and delivering romantic-oriented merchandise to lovers everywhere within Hegemony systems, which they were based in. Their monopoly became surprisingly groundbreaking, with Valentine Corp products almost always being within the top 5 most bought products on the many Hegemony systems they were based in. Their success did not go unnoticed, however. The rise in piracy within recent years began to take its toll on Valentine Corp. Many raiders began to single out and attack Valentine Corp freighters carrying shipments of valuable jewelry, money, and other goods. While Hegemony escorts and the independent contractors that Valentine Corp hired helped to somewhat quell these raids, the thorns in Valentine Corp's backside were never successfully removed. Shipments and vast amounts of money were lost. Their vast losses ended up bankrupting and destroying many of Valentine Corp's businesses, outlets, and other locations. Valentine Corporation's assets and stocks fell into a depression that all but slipped a noose around their neck.
Finally. After a group of pirate raiders attacked and captured a small convoy carrying women's lingerie, they decided they had had enough.
They began to pour all the investments they could afford into military-grade weaponry research. And as it turns out, they were quite good at it. They created powerful fighter defense squadrons (a single convoy containing at least four of them) that put heavy pressure on attacking ships, forcing them into a defensive position while their freighters' new and powerful ballistics and missile weaponry snapped their necks. Capturing many attacking freighters and the surrendered goods with them, they saw a rise in profit and money like never before. Valentine Corp enjoyed the taste too much to simply remain a manufacturer of lover's goods, and so they branched out to an independent military force. They served both love and death, putting great care into both. Their riches became enormous. So much that they bought and colonized their own systems, essentially becoming their own nation as well as a company. And gradually, their status as a romance manufacturer faded into obscurity. Their roles as Merchants of Love and Romance were replaced as Merchants of Death and Fear. Through it all, however, they managed to maintain an alliance and generally friendly relationship with Hegemony, despite many conflicts and war-scares. Their friendly-ness with Hegemony, however, has put them in a death match with Tri-Tach, having had many a bloody feud with them as the years passed, eventually becoming arch-enemies in open all-out war.
One thing is for certain. Valentine Corporation remains happy as ever to lovingly craft a heart-shaped missile...and having it find where it hurts you the most.
Fleet CapabilitiesValentine Corporation ships rely mostly on ballistic and missile weaponry as well as their abnormally strong fighters. While they have done experimentation with energy weaponry, not many Valentine Corp ships come equipped with a lot of energy points. Mostly due to the cost of manufacturing them (not to mention it's the signature of their enemy, Tri-Tach), as their ships are already quite expensive to produce thanks to their heavily armored/armed nature. Furthermore, absolutely no Valentine Corp ship has full 360 degree shields, most of them not even covering half of the ship. Instead, they rely on their very resilient hulls to take more damage, and their powerful fighters to distract enemies from their larger ships.
Pros+ Powerful attack fighters
+ Very durable hulls
+ Loaded with ballistic/missile weapon points
+ Strong ballistic/missile weaponry
+ Variety of ships (err, there will be anyway)
+ Very maneuverable ships
+ Decently fast ships
Cons- Lack of energy weapon points
- Flux capacity is average at best
- Limited shields
- Some of the Fleet Point costs are a bit large
- Their ships tend to be expensive

CreditsVaster - Myself. I guess. For the kitbashing/designing/adding-in-game/nigh-everything that's not listed as done by someone else in the credits.
K-64 - Silly friend who nagged me to get this game and bought it for me. And helped me with the modding basics.
Zaj - Another silly friend who did the Mandible for me.
Trylobot - For his ship editor. Because it's wonderful and keeps me from fiddling with java files/spread-sheets for five hours straight.
Some person I don't know - The fighters from the Fringe series were pulled off an open source game art website, so thank you whoever did that.
