Colonies are still great
« on: April 02, 2021, 10:32:01 AM »

Without a Cryosleeper, Coronal Hypershunt, AI cores, or colony skills other than Ground Operations, they're still good, mostly thanks to all the cool domain loot you can find. In terms of story point investment, I only improved the Megaports on all colonies and Commerce on my massive money maker. It's 20 in-game years in so they build up pretty slow, and I still haven't found a Pristine Nanoforge or Light Industry booster, but having 400k income and 350k of production capacity per month for very little babysitting or investment other than money and exploration loot is good. Barren rockballs are some of the best cash cow planets now because of all the industry items that require vacuum/non-habitable, and I like that colonizing gas giants is now something you might seriously consider as a good source of volatiles instead of being the worst way to get volatiles.

I do wonder, what is the best planet types for the mineable resources?

And can you get a +3 volatiles source?

There is a big f***g drill so any inhabitable with at least +2 rare/+0 ore is good enough as of ore mining goes. That said, ultrarich on both is still probably the best since those volcanic planets really are born inhabitable.

No. Only ore and rare ore can has +3 deposit. Any other has +2 at most.

;D Sweet thanks! I've been looking around for planets to make a colony and needed to know if I should keep searching for a +3 volatiles or not. Which is sweet as I have already found a good world.

EDIT:  >:( I'm wrong, it's a bloody neutron star system!

Volcanics and Cryovolcanics are the best for Ore/Rare Ore, though with the big drill most any planet with ore/rare ore will do, and Cryos can also have enough volatiles to feed fuel production. Gas giants with +2 volatiles can have the highest volatiles production possible with a gas-giant specific mining item, enough to feed the colony items that require 10 of them with a little extra boost. IIRC any organics deposit is enough to feed any colony of the same size.
