Flight Leaders (Officers)

So with the new Officer system having a fleet is much more interesting.

But what about fighters?

You can't assign them a officer, which makes sense from a lore and gameplay view.


So why not make a subclass of Officers, named whatever seems fit (e.g. Flight Leader)

They could have a different skill set from normal Officers (as they already have a slightly different from ours) which would probably prevents to strong combinations.


Anyone else?

Having wing leaders eventually would likely be desirable.

For now, I'd (probably) be fine with just being able to put the existing officers in fighter wings... even if it means Daggers with Missile Specialization 10.

I'd really like this ability.  Sure, the player can't assign himself to command a fighter wing (you're far too important for that, hehe), but the other officers are "expendable" (at least, we don't tell them that).  It would be pretty awesome to have fighters with larger amounts of spare fighters, extra missiles (especially potent on Dagger and Thunders), be more manouverable, etc.

I'm sure the skill set will need to be modified, though.  Some things might not apply to fighters, like venting speed.

How about assigning CAGs (flight officers) to carriers? That would go perfectly with Tartiflette's pre-0.7 idea of assigning fighters wings to a carrier as its weapons. Then one officer would impart his skills to all wings assigned to his carriers, and you could specialize a carrier for a mission. Like a bomber-carrier with a CAG that gives extra torpedo damage, or an interceptor-carrier with one that gives extra speed.

I also thought of this Idea, but problem is, right now, there is no correlation between carrier and fighter, ans so CAGs wouldn't work.

But sure, if Tartiflette's idea would be implemented, that would make a great combo

Well, sure, you could have kind-of CAGs with the current system. Assume among the normal officer combat skills were some fighter related ones. If you put an officer who's trained in those in a (deployed) carrier, every wing in the fleet could get that bonus. Maybe just a percentage of it. Say if there's one CAG who gives 90 speed bonus aboard a carrier with one flight deck, and three wings deployed, each would get 30 speed bonus. If the CAG is aboard a six-deck Astral, he could give up to six wings the full bonus. Something like that.

That would have the advantage to require almost no changes in the current UI or officers mechanics.

Having deck officers would be really, really nice way of getting around it.

Maybe to simplify it with the current system, the officer's abilities are split between the number of flight decks per ship in the fleet - so if you've got 2 flight decks on 2 separate ships and a single officer commanding one of the ships with the single flight deck with +20% weapon damage, all fighter wings would get a +10% damage bonus.  If you've got a Heron carrier with 2 flight decks with an officer commanding it, and another carrier with 1 flight deck, then the officer would impart a +13.3% damage bonus.
