Wendigo as in a man-eating spirit?
Thaaat's the one.
Looking at that bounty trying to figure out how I'd approach it, and I keep drawing blanks. Maybe if the Aurora had SO and AM blasters I could make something happen, but it looks like it's just got hammers, and six hammers times four mounts doesn't feel like it'd do much to that fleet. Even keeping the Gryphon from getting itself killed feels like it'd be a challenge. There is the one Monitor, though, and those can do a lot.
Maybe the Champion is just better than I remember it being. Haven't used them since my first run, when I barely knew how to make things work.
The Champion is pretty great, yeah. I tried taking it on head-on a few times but there's just too much brick to take down, so ended up settling for something more limited:
https://twitter.com/amosolov/status/1739515546356351194"This little maneuver is going to cost us 400 supplies and a Vanguard". But since it was basically a bonus bounty - there was one in the same system already that I'd just done - it's fine, just an extra 200k credits after you subtract these expenses.
Wonder how it plays since it essentially seems like a low tech Doom. Phase ship with lots of armour meant for brawling, but without the unique system and probably a bit slower. I'm just afraid that the AI won't pilot it too poorly since phase ships can already be easily stunlocked. Now imagine a low tech cruiser sized one. Rugged Construction is nice for player fleets but I'll always prefer my ships to survive fights majority of the time.
Hopefully it has good weapons mounts.
Among other things, it has 5 medium ballistics and ammo feeder. On the flip side, it's got Distributed Fire Control. From experience with it in my fleet so far, it hasn't died yet in any normal fight, and is usually the last ship standing if it's a losing one. Phase Anchor is very nice on it - it benefits the brawling, and also makes losing one of these completely free per battle, should it actually happen.
I need to actually watch it a little more and see how it does in combat. It's mostly off-screen not dying and helping bog down the enemy fleet, but this is fairly indirect evidence of its usefulness
