Hello dear friend.

Pegasuses (Pegasi? Pegasuseses?) do not appear to be spawning in either Persean League military markets, nor in Persean League fleets with this mod enabled. I am using a save that initially had Better Variants 1.4.0 enabled, then I manually updated to 1.4.1. Tested using console commands to force markets to refresh, as well as spawning Persean League fleets of various FP values - only capitals present seem to be Conquests. Markets and fleets spawn Pegasus as normal after disabling mod. I was also using VariantsLib 0.5.2.

I love you; please help me.

EDIT: I looked at the variants that your persean_league.faction file references. Looks like you've got them Pegasi rocking conventional missile weapons like squalls etc, which the Persean League doesn't have access to - could that be it? (I don't blame you tho, double squall+hurricane pegasus gang for life homie gotta represent frfr no cap)

The issue is fixed. Download the new release. By the way it wasn't an issue with unknown blueprints it was that overriding variants doesn't work the same in .faction files as default_ship_roles.json.

It basically turns off this mods features for randomly occurring AI fleet's.

Version 1.4.3 is out, with Luna Lib integration, new settings, and bug fixes. This version requires version 0.5.3 of Variants Lib, so make sure to download that too. See the changelog for a fill list of details.

Need to point out that Better Variants 1.4.3 + VariantsLib 0.5.3 is not save compatible with saves created with BV 1.4.2 + VL 0.5.2.

I kept a backup .zip archive with the previous versions, but it would have been nice to have been informed of said incompatibility.

Having said the above? I haven't tried changing the LunaLib settings from their (new) defaults.

Addendum: Also, the 'BetterVariants.version' file is malformed; it's missing a closing " mark at the end, which caused a CTD-during-game-asset(s)-load.

Even after correcting the local file, it won't compare properly against the online original, to 'prove' that BV v1.5.3 is the newest version.

Excellent, but checking the OP of this thread or the Github doesn't indicate that you've noted that the newest versions of BV (1.5.3) and VL (0.5.3) can't load saves created with the previous versions (1.5.2 and 0.5.2, respectively).

An except from starsector.log upon attempting to load said saves (Too large to directly post here, it's >100000 bytes).

A question regarding hullmods mods: I'm using Aptly simple hullmods, will it be "injected" in the Better Variants fleets or not? Do they have a standard/fixed hullmods setup? According to mod files the latter seems true.

For the factions with autofit is turned off, I don't think the hullmods will appear.

Does this mean "start a new game", or "you can't downgrade from 1.4.3 back to 1.4.2 without breaking your save"?

You must start a new save/campaign; tried multiple workarounds on older campaigns when I replied those ~2 months back, couldn't get v1.4.3 to work with my then new-ish (but heavily-Console Command'd, which is why I didn't do the same until mid-October because many too mods had updated, requiring starting anew) campaigns.

Hey, as a modder, how would I make my faction get buffed up by better variants? It only uses ships other factions use - kind of an amalgamation - so I don't predict any issues.

Look into the Variants Lib docs and Better Variants mod files. The special fleets are all done through files so no scripting is required.
