Looks like the issue was that the environment variable _JAVA_OPTIONS had been set previously to have some non standard options. Deleting the variable solved the problem.

Computer->Properies->Advanced System Settings->Environment Variables

Then hunt down and delete _JAVA_OPTIONS

Hi Alex,

Ivaylo got in contact with me and sorted my sorry arse right out.
The problem was one of my own making. I realised that, trying to stop minecraft from crashing, I took the advice of some random youtuber and changed the memory allocation on _JAVA_OPTIONS to something ridiculous. Ivaylo got me to delete the setting, and the problem is gone.

<And I see he just got in before me with a better description!>

Thankyou so much for the support, I could not have been treated better, you rule! Also, having just played the first tutorial, I suspect your game does too, but thats a topic for another thread.
