@Alex---Ordinance Points?
« on: February 18, 2012, 08:20:28 AM »

To give an example of what this thread is about, the Onslaught-Class has 200 Ordinance Points to use, and when refitting it if you use 200 you can't use anymore. That makes sense and seems to be enough to build a strong ship. But when using the premade Standard Battleship design for the Onslaught-Class it uses 336 STILL out of just 200. giving it a 60% increase in OPs. How and why does this happen? If all the NPC's are running around with ships that can use 60% more gear doesn't that mean if we try to outfit our own ships we'll actually be crippling ourselves? I've found that in my experiences it's smarter just to use the premade build but that's kinda sad when I was so happy to be able to refit my own ships. I'm sure there's a perfectly good reasoning behind this, or some unseen aspect yet to be introduced, like lvling up ships, but i'd love to hear it from our deity, the creator, Alex! ;D

This, a thousand times over. For example, the Condor-class carriers,
when captured or bought, they have PILUMS, yes PILUMS.
Those things are level 2 missiles on a level 1 socket!
Originally, I exchanged them for swarmers,
until I realized just exactly how useful these Pilum'd Condors were.
Anybody else have problems like this?

These are noted bugs, likely to get fixed in the next release; there is a thread in bug reports where you can add new ones you find

also there is a quote from alex speaking about it somewhere where he says in so many words its bad design.

also you will be able to increase your OP threw your character level.

You won't be able to refit fighters and bombers at all. They're designed/balanced around having a particular set of weapons and would be very broken if you could change it. Which ones you pick for your fleet -out of quite a few that are available- is the choice here, not how they're outfitted.

Do not forget that character skills (not yet implemented) will raise the OP limit for hulls. For example a better engineer can fit more hull mods on a ship, more weapons, etc.

i bet its less a role and more an advancement tree.

so you would have engineer and you would get more and more upgrades the more level up points you put into the tree.

i would be interested to see more than 3 trees to :P seems like a lot of games have 3 trees.

I'd rather see some crazy convoluted tech tree unlock thing. No trees at all, just one gigantic tree.
