Just me or marines dying too much for boarding fighters/bombers?

What the title says. I noticed some rather consistent ridiculous death counts, such as losing two marines boarding a single half-dead piranha. TWICE.

I lost 6 marines to a  Piranha that was on 10% hp or so. Lost 0 taking over a buffalo mk2 at 70% so yeah something is wrong with the boarding algorithms I think.

are you checking how many crew are on board first?

Uhh, well fighters would be obvious.  One crew per fighter.  I guess its like one of those epic last stands in Risk where one unit manages to kill half the opposing army through sheer cussedness.

Yeah, I mean... your marines have one way entry (I assume) through to those fighter cockpits... he just has to aim his gun at the door. :P Maybe the marine AI is poor?

Marine I: I'm going in, cover me!

*runs into the opening, gets shot down*

Marine II: Marine I down! I'm going in, cover me!

*runs into the opening, gets shot down*

etc.

Marine XI: Marine X down! I'm going in, cover me!

Pilot: Oh God! Gun jam!

*Marine XI shoots pilot*

Marine XI: Pilot has been terminated! Fighter captured!

Or perhaps the marines are simply led by Zapp Brannigans? Throw enough marines at it, eventually it'll work, right?

Bombers have historically had crews. Some fighters have a gunner. It's not a given that every fighter will have one crew. EDIT: Drones have NO crew.

EDIT: Also, there are hazards on board other than crew. You have shot the ship to pieces, so people can take a wrong step, or get blown up by unstable components. It's not JUST combat, it's the whole danger of boarding an unknown ship in a fairly unknown condition.

For guys which are worried about high health shuips which dont kill marines, you probably boarded a ship with no crew left. As Icepick said mouse over the vessel to see crew remaining. I once had a Destroyer with 130 crew left. I nuked that baby from orbit.

most marines i have lost is 225 taking capital ships...

noticed that if you can end combat with ships still in reserve on the opposing side then they "surrender" and you can board them with 0 casualties and 0 damage got about 5 capital ships this way LMAO.

You won't be able to refit fighters and bombers at all. They're designed/balanced around having a particular set of weapons and would be very broken if you could change it. Which ones you pick for your fleet -out of quite a few that are available- is the choice here, not how they're outfitted.

Marines are supposed to be good though lol. Losing 225 on any given ship... I lost 16 to a single Pihrana bomber the other night.  :'(

Yeah!  The marines have power armor, it says so in game!  I'd figure that a single one could take down a couple of pilots easy.

I'm imagining a space marine getting killed by some dude in pajamas.
