Coordinates
« on: January 05, 2013, 04:02:20 PM »

Not a nessesary feature, but something that fills up the screen with something interesting to watch. Add a bit of cooridinates in the top left corner, next to the accident level and speed.  It would show an (X, Y) coordinate with the center (usually a sun) as (0, 0) and would spread out according to where planet locations are in the code.

I could see it being useful when missions are added. For example, you hear a rumor that there's a data chip hidden in an asteroid field at (455, -2063) in the Elysium system and need to go find that location.

Well, better that wathing the planets we all know go by, or the endless space between the TT station and the pirate station.

And yea, coordibates would become more gameplay-related as more elements are added.

How would they work anyway with everything moving in orbit?
I'd prefer optical markers to tell you where to go.

But maybe for the interstellar travel.

Coordinates would move with you or whatever object is moving.  Kind like F3 in minecraft.

Ok, who's with me for polar coordinates rather than Cartesian?  :D

(seriously though, it would solve some problems for defining a mission objective or goal by orbit)

I like the way you think!, using polar coordinates the planets path could be easily monitored. (i forgot how they call the whole planetary rotation thing)
