Portable Turrets
« on: January 03, 2013, 08:37:58 AM »

Currently, there is no easy way to make a portable turret drone that stays behind after the deployer ship dies, and is not ideal to do it this way,

It would work like the current drone systems, where you can have custom drones modded in and such, but they would:

A) No longer move when deployed(Kill all vertical and horizontal movement and stay like that)
B) Be interchangeable based on OP
C) Allow for modding, such as whole new types of turrets, varied weapons etc

What do you guys think?

Kind of like how the SPAZ turrets work

To add to what Sproginator has said, It would mean that there could be "mines" or blockades during some battles e.g. a 1/100 chance of the battle being in minefield which would be a very fun Idea.

That could be an additional feature, yes

Deployable turrets sounds awesome! I would love that.

Provided the hull can support that size and type hard point and you have the OP to fit that specific weapon to the turret, yes

I think the Construction Rig would be great for placing those turrets.
"The Construction Rig, although unarmed, can provide great support due to its ability to quickly deploy and activate powerful Defence Platforms to guard strategic points on the battlefield."
And a tab in refit screen to change the turrets weapon (maybe add hull mods/vents?).

Perhaps, on capture, you can choose between flak turret defences, long range missiles, or devastating thumpers

That would be really nice.
Maybe you could even deploy turrets pre-battle when you choose for example to "defend" in a fight.

Couldn't you just make a ship that had no engines and a 360 degree turret and set it to be a drone?

It dies when the ship dies, no options to change that, and not really all that customisable outside of modding

cant make a weapon that shoots a projectile that can fire lasers? if possible it would need to be like a timed mechanism for when it will stop and become the turret... if you have seen star wars it would be like the flying jedi training droid.
