The (nearly) unstoppable paragon build
« on: December 09, 2012, 03:06:31 AM »

Paragon ships with the 20% hard flux dissipation bonus, as well as maxed out flux dissipation (highest I could get was 2750), generate about 50 hard flux a second with fortress shield up. If theres a way to bring the flux dissipation a smidgen higher, say 3k, or 3250, then they would actually go DOWN in flux while using fortress shield, allowing them to effectively never drop shields, and be invincible.
But even fortress shields generate flux, you say! How much flux? A fully suited up paragon makes .3 flux per damage, meaning those fortress shields only have .03 flux per dmg, or 34 dmg per 1 flux.
With 3000 flux, which might be within reach, you would need to do 1700 dps to a paragon's shields for every 250 soft flux dissipation to stop the paragon from breaking even.

What are your thoughts on the matter?
What do you think is the most unstoppable ship build?
Should it be possible to have an unkillable ship after progressing far enough into the game?

I thought fortress shield had a hard flux constant upkeep cost?

It has, but with the perk he mentioned hard flux is dissipated at a rate of 20% of your normal dissipation.

I generally used the fortress shields to vent the soft-flux from the weapons while under fire. Surprisingly effective tactic, too

Then shield bump them to death, and tank all the damage. :)

Shield bump?
Real men burndrive into the enemy with the Onslaught.

(The best thing is that it really does work. :D)

Even without operational weapons, being invincible seems halfway in-between op and awesome.

That sounds a lot less fun than a paragon loaded out with Plasma Cannons, Heavy Blasters, and every flux and maneuverability buff. You can take out an normal onslaught in about 8 seconds.

It's really not that hard to make an unstoppable paragon build. The ship is supposed to be the 'ultimate' end-game craft. The base build is more than sufficient for a well built fleet.

The idea is that the various tech levels represent different - not "better" - ways to do things.

Pffff, who needs full shields when you have speed and directionals, in combination with flares?

If by "good guys" you mean "elitist regime that suppresses colonial independence and thrives off of an overwhelmingly deep gap in wealth between social classes," then yes.

The Paragon is good with player bonuses. I can take on the Hegemony defense fleet alone with this.
