Editing ship classes?

Ok this is one thing i need to know and other modders is it possible to change the typs of ships like ok i want to edit fighter and change it to Scout helicopters
and change frigates to Transport attack heli copters and Change destroyers to Light attack choppers and capitals to Attack choppers but can you add another class?
