Has anyone tried this with the HP regenerating missile from the creepy Shrouded guys? Probably not enough healing to really sustain through heavy damage, especially with only 2 missile slots.

If you couldn't put an Alpha core in this thing, this thread wouldn't exist in the first place. The problem isn't the ship itself, it's the ease of of equipping it with the most broken "officer" in the game.

Free Executor from the Usurpers quest would also be called a cheat if it was able to go with cores.

It's pretty dumb, yeah. There's a hard limit on hungering rifts, and 2 launchers will generally already max it out. Weapons also don't have to be on the same ship as the hullmod, the healing is spread across all mantled ships.
But, as I said, regular Onslaugh is better for this as it has more residual armor.

Currently during exploration, you can find a lone vambrace floating around.

So my idea is : Make the initial Onslaught MK.I missing both vambrace.

You find ones floating around during exploration, and equip it.

Since it is modular this is already possible with code and floating vambrace encounter is already in the game.

This will make the initial power spike much more lower when you get the ship, add some flavor, and give more exploration content.

I'd agree that the Mk. 1 is probably too strong (no idea how people are having this thing die on them) but so are a ton of other things in the game. I've got more of a problem with the fact that it (or the 1.2 million credits you get for bringing it back to the core) doesn't feel very "earned". I feel like you should have to at least fight a smallish ThreatTM fleet before you can attempt to recover it, similar to some Remnant encounters when salvaging stations.
I'm thinking that this may be the way to go. A relatively small Threat fleet (A bunch of frigates and maybe a few destroyers. Nothing too crazy) before you can get the ship. Gives a nice little intro to the Threat and what they can do and you'll need a bit more than just one of the beginner fleets to pull it off. Then you get the ship, the First Strike fleet comes and you get to see what the Mk 1 can do.

Another option is a decent sized derelict fleet guarding the Mk 1 (with a few ramparts and maybe even a Guardian or a pair of Guardians). Lorewise, they could've been sent to retrieve and tow it back to a shipyard after it was disabled but when they couldn't (Either being so deep within the abyss and so far away from everything or because the collapse had just happened and they didn't think that there was anything left to go back to), they decided to stay where they were and prevent the Threat from getting their swarmy tendrils on the Mk 1. Might even have a big debris field and a bunch of busted droneships floating within to indicate that they have been at this for a while. Also a good indicator to the player that there is something really good here and that they'll need a good fleet for this fight.

But something is coming to (fight) you, right after you figure out the MK.I's sensor algorithm and fix it:

"Got a long-range hit..." Sensors reports.
"Something is approaching our orbit. Without maneuvers we have one shift? Two? Half a day, max."

For me a small Threat fleet showed up.

Imho based on where you find the floating vambrace, I think the Onslaught Mk. I was escorting/docked at the Gate Carrier but got separated while it was single mindedly chasing after it's targets.

Better residual armor yes, but oldslaught has *infinite* PPT.  Thus if you can keep it alive with enough sustain from "hull steal" against stacks of enemy fleets, you could break the barrier usually imposed by CR.

Granted, for normal capitals the PPT barrier already requires deliberately setting up ridiculous encounters or maybe heavily modding the game.

I am not a good player, so yeah got the whole fleet taken out, oldslaught included.

First Strike: kerbstomped it, could have taken it out without the oldslaught.

Second Strike: somehow completely missed this. (I assume there is one?)

Third Strike (on the way out of the Abyss): kerbstomped me. Could not take out the big regeneration boys fast enough.

Character is level 13, has only “found” officers that aren’t a good fit for my fleet style. Feeling burnt out after 3 days of midnight oil, so will cheat console respec them rather than hell-grinding from scratch. Will have to experiment, maybe after a couple days break to recharge.

First/Second/Third Strike are just the fleet size designations, so you can meet more than one of each.

(It took me way longer than it should have to get a fleet that could beat Second Strike or the tier 2 shroud with heavy losses (even bringing along both oldslaught and Ziggurat vs. the Threat, smh my head) so I'm not particularly itching to try my luck against tier 3 of either barring a significant fleet respec and/or infusion of skill :-X)

Dweller T3 is honestly not any harder than T2. The thing is still subject to the 160 DP limit, so it can't even deploy the extra appendages. Ends up being basially the same fight as T2, but with reinforcements. I'm outright surprised how easy the fight is once you figure out the strategy. It's very predictable, too, nothing can really go wrong or surprise you.

Threat is imo a lot harder. There's far more randomness in the fights, and the exact same fleet can mop them up or wipe entirely depending on how the dice rolls.

Only if you let me make the vambrace an entire ship rofl. Though this is kind of a good idea. Because then you could concievably make it so vambraces have to be payed for as well. Make them a money sink.

the reason Onslaught MKI is so powerful is cause the dev wants the quest to be a pleasant experience

if we floated in space for 60 minutes (cause that is how long it takes to get to the edge of the map) and found a piece of crap. And then got obliterated by aliens. It would be pretty funny. And actually very interesting.
But it would also make the average Borderlands 3 enjoyer rage quit the game and write a bad review on yelp

never mind the main-stream consumer, i ragequitted after getting obliterated by the shroud... Alex definitely did make the right call of giving us an overpowered weapon

but i would rather just have the bosses be on the same power level as us, just more numerous for example. Rather than have them be godlike and then we have to use the godlike ship to defeat them

kinda takes away the player control a bit

Well yeah that's a trash fleet to take on an endgame challenge, that won't even defeat a single Ordo.

exactly... And yet the quest appears when you're doing quests to dig yourself out of early game without cheesing the economy or missions. And then you get immediately invited to go back there to get freaking swatted by a giant emerald bomboozler

I think when playing the new patch I have gotten attacked by the menace more often than I got the chance to actually use a booster of those lights in the void.

This enemy should be an easter egg. Right now it spawns instantly when you go back there.

edit: for comparison, the Omega enemy was so niche and intimidating I have played like 8 playthroughs of Starsector. Never fought it. And assumed the Cryoblaster and other Omega weapons were just unused content

Any casual gamer is going to quit this game the second they see the refit screen regardless. Let's not kid ourselves, Starsector is a niche autismo-deluxe game appealing to spreadsheet enthusiasts. A late game challenge doesn't need to hold anyone's hand here.
