When it comes to talk of giving them a large number missiles / torpedoes to compensate for their poor speed, I start to think less about using them with an Astral and more about using them with an appropriately ranged Legion with DTA or on a flagship Odyssey on perma regroup.

Since swapping weapons is super easy, I'll be trying it with two gorgons and a gazer sometime soon, and I'll report back on how I found it under those conditions.

So how did it performed?

Heck, give the thing Dragonfires and see how they do. 1 per fighter and watch the red death-beams fly.

Yes, I know that would make them completely outclass Cobras in the ultra-heavy ordinance role. But Cobras aren't in a great spot. Increase the turn speed by 300% and either decrease the OP to 10 or increase the wing size to 2 at 20 OP, and I'd be a lot happier with them. On the other hand, the codex text for the Cobra spells out how it is a hilariously terrible fighter that should never have existed, so maybe its current incarnation is ok!

Trident becoming the first midline bomber sounds interesting and much more appealing than the current Dagger "upgrade" it is right now.

Midline aesthetic along with the Broadsword but they are listed as lowtech in-game.

Gladius and Thunder are the only midline wings in the game.

Ever so slightly off topic, but I'm happy with the balance point of Khopesh right now, at least compared to other fighters. They aren't universally the best bomber because their raw offense is only mid, but they have a combo of cheap OP/fast/easy on replacement rate/saturates PD that appeals.

I love khopesh for filling in when you just want more reliable damage from your fighters.  Daggers are ok at that too, but they get shot up a lot.

Regarding why I haven't reported back on tweaked Tridents... Did you know Factorio released an entire expansion recently?  Allowances must be made.

Tridents look pretty good when recolored tan and dragon-red, incidentally.

o.O
Also: Looks kindaaa clunky and slow. Idk. If we get a DEM bomber maybe we don't have to "sacrifice" as in rework the Trident? Just buff it a bit moderately...

No lie: that’s badass. Obviously 6 of them are going to look insane but if you only have 1 or 2 paired with some fighters, it would be much more reasonable. They do look a little funky though…!

That's because I was lazy and slapped a 1 ammo medium Dragonfire instead of something more elaborate. Likewise with the Gazer. I nerfed the range to 1200 (from 2000) and it feels more balanced now, I think. I attached the mod, since I already made the mod, as applying the changes this way was the easiest way for me. Knock yourself out.
