bad stutter in modded game
« on: February 15, 2024, 02:49:00 PM »

Alright, I've seen people brag about having 50+ mods and 10 factions included with games that run perfectly, so I'm getting rather miffed that I have 3 factions, and I get stutters so bad that the game pauses for a second or 2 at a time.  My current game version is 0.97a-RC10. I changed my vmparams to 8192.

my mods are:

a new level of confidence 30 3.1
AoTD sleeper 1.2.1, VoS 1.0.8, Vaults of knowledge 2.0.12
combat chatter 1.14
ED Shipyards 2.6.5
fleet size by DP 2.6.5
HMI 0.3.7b
illustraded.entities 1.2b
Industrial 3.3.e
interstellar imperium 2.6.4
lazylib 2.8b
luna 1.8.4
magic 1.3.9
molre military missions 0.4.1
Nexerlin 0.11.1b
PMMM 1.6.1
progressive S-Mods 0.10.2
terraforming and station construction 8..4.6
underworld 1.8.3
VIC 1.6.2
Whichmodo 1.2
graphicsLib 1.9

my computer has an AMD ryzen 7 270 at 3.2 GHz
32 GB RAM
edit: NVIDIA RTX 2060 super
Win 10

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Solution: changing vramps to 6gb from 6gb, and moving to java 8 fixed the issues.  Thanks again!

With that few mods you don't want an 8 GB allocation in vmparams (which makes the garbage collector work less frequently but harder, potentially causing stuttering). 4 GB would be plenty.

I'd also try upgrading the game to use Java 8 (instructions here) or Shenandoah.

What's your graphics device?

Thank you, I'll have to test this when I can in a few hours.

testing the java 8 first.
