Midline Expansion (RC1) [0.95a]

A small mod that adds four more midline ships to the game, one of each size category.

First we have the frigate category, with the Hornet:

The Hornet is little more than a mobile deployment platform for Limited Production Contracts. It has no innate defenses beyond it's shield and armour, but does possess an advanced targeting network to increase the damage of its fielded craft.

Second, we have the Dart Light Destroyer:

While limited in offensive capabilities, the Dart is fast and well protected, making it perfect for escort and swarm roles. It possesses a medium ballistics turret mount and two small composite turret mounts, and is able to bring at least two of them to bear anywhere in its surrounding space.

Thirdly, the Armadillo Heavy Cruiser:

Like the Dart, it focuses more on survival than offense, making it best used alongside other ships. It has two small composite turrets to the stern, two medium ballistics turrets in its midsection, and two medium missile turrets to its aft.

Finally is the Harrier Missile Battlecruiser:

The result of intense study in the miniaturisation of limited nanoforges lead to the production of the Harrier. Armed with one large missile hardpoint, four medium missile hardpoints, and two small missile hardpoints as its primary means of offense, the Harrier would only see limited time on the battlefield if not for its ship system.
Like the Gryphon, the Harrier is able to quickly forge its own missile ammo. However, unlike the Gryphon, the Harrier is able to dedicated the space needed for the equipment to do so an unlimited number of times.
It also possesses two medium ballistic turret mounts, and several small ballistic turret mounts, primarily for anti-fighter defense as it otherwise risks getting attacked from behind, where it is most vulnerable.

I was going to write "how did I even miss this thread" until I realized it's brand spanking new, so congratulations on releasing the mod!
I assume I can just install the ship pack right away on an ongoing campaign, can I not? The ships look really interesting!

1)Hornet is the only other frigate besides the Monitor Mk.II that has a modular hangar bay in the modiverse as far as my memory goes, it's definetly going to be interesting to play with!
2)Hornet looks like something that would perform really well with Safety Overrides, a single Heavy Machinegun and two Light Assault guns! Looking forward to trying just that out in my next campaign.
3)Hoh, does the Armadillo use the back section of a Conquest? That's amazing. What ship ability does it have? You could try giving it both Manouvering Thrusters and Damper Field as soon as the next patch hits and you're able to do it!
4)Harrier looks like a worldbeater. I'm definetly playing with it as soon as I get my hands over its derelict in my next campaign. Giving it an officer with both Missile Specialization and System Expertise could give it a massive performance spike, have you looked into it?
I also have two minor visual nitpicks about it:
I think it looks a bit too yellow in the back section, which could be a good thing since it would generally fit a lot into the Persean League fleet doctrine but I'm not sure if you designed it for that sole purpose.
The back section of the two arms of the ship are a bit too...samey. They could use something put in there but I'm not too sure as to what could be added.

Looking forward to what's in store for the future of this mod!

I'm actually surprised that Dart wasn't used yet. However, that might still be used and I just can't find it right now. I thought that SWP by DR had a Dart...

Thanks! They were just idle kitbashes I had on file, but I really liked the Harrier, so it forced my hand.

Yes indeed! There's no new factions or mechanics added, so it easily slides into an existing save.

You actually already named both its current ability, and then one I was debating it having. Currently it has Manuevering Jets.

The yellow is to keep in theme with the Gryphon and... Whatever the new one is called, too new for me to remember. It's made particularly easy by the fact it's a kitbash of those two.

The underwing sections look lower quality because unfortunately they are. I struggled to find something to fill the void the removal of a cockpit left in the wing, and so had to resort to more or less making that bit myself. Which would probably be easier if I allowed myself to use more than Paint.net.

(Although I could always just add more missile hardpoints to cover it up :P)

Let me be clear upfront: I don't really care. That said names are easy to change, if hard to come up with, so I'm open to better names.

you could call the hornet "Wasp Nest" or "Nest" or perhaps "Dugout"
"Wasp Nest" isnt a terrible name for the harrier either
you could also call the harrier scorpio, or orion

Oh, I'm not trying to force you to do anything. Just trying to be useful in case another modder wants to contend for a name or something. Checking on it for you isn't hard and prepares you for that scenario.
Osprey isn't used yet. Just let Varya know that your using it as a curtesy because she has a WIP that's using it as a placeholder name.

You probably wanted to say that the Dart has two small composite turret at the bow and two medium missle turret to its stern. The aft of a vessel is near the stern, or the rearmost portion of the vessel, while the bow is the foremost.

Cool mod, gonna check it out.

Small update that makes the Harrier now more willing to actually use its missiles (and seems to have improved its armour-tanking too), as well as make them actually show up in markets alongside the Conquests.

Now requires YunruCore, which can be found in the mod megathread.

Hey, so I tried to use the mod but it caused Starsector to crash when it loaded just saying null error.

This is what I think is the relevant part of the log.

Hmm, null pointer errors can be pretty much anything.

Shot in the dark, do you have Yunru Core downloaded and enabled too? It contains the ship sprites, and thus is a prerequisite for the mod.

Yeah, my apologies for that. Hopefully I'll end up with a system where YunruCore is only needed to uninstall things, but as is to reduce file size only Core has the ship sprites (since as you found out, a ship needs a sprite or the game crashes).
