Keyboard layout / settings
« on: May 11, 2011, 04:04:02 AM »

Hi,

I am french, as it happens, and I am using a french keyboard. So right now WASD control scheme does not work well, unless I'm switching to a US layout, which is jot so convenient. Is there a setting file I can edit to fix this, as the settings menu is not enabled yet?

Best wishes!

Do you mean that the layout on a "french" keyboard is different than that of  a QWERTY keyboard?

the layout would be different, yes.
I recall in the blog post about the manual I suggested/asked about key-mapping.

Salut!

We wanted to get the key mapper in before the Alpha hit the streets, but were unable to due to time constraints.

Rest assured, however, the target is definitely in our sights.

But how is it different? The only other keyboard layout I know if is DVORAK. I've worked in French for years and have never come across a french keyboard  ??? ???

Its pretty wacky yeah, but true.

Even the UK keyboard layout, while still QWERTY, is totally nuts. Things like the @ key is replaced with a #, and there are buttons underneath the Enter key, which is huge, and upside down, reverse L shaped. That's just for starters.

I remember trying to use a French Mac keyboard a while back. It took me literally 15 minutes to type my name.

Hehe It took me even longer figuring out how to type my gmail password on a turkish keyboard when I was on vacation.
It was long and contained many special characters that are nowhere one a turkish keyboard :D

Back to topic - I use a german keyboard layout - havent had real problems yet.
(except for the z key being in a nearly unreachable position but I don't use it anyways :P )

The Y key is currently hardcoded to work the same as the Z key :D

Sounds like there is plans to add it at some point from this thread, but I thought I'd ask anyway: Is keyboard customization included in this title? I'm a firm believer in ESDF as opposed to WASD, and while proficient in the use of AutoHotKey, I'd rather not mess with it for this title. Thanks!

It would be handy if I could view the keymapping (or even better change it) from within a mission. Currently, I think I have to quit out to the main menu to see the options screen, and earlier I forgot what Brake was. :)

Good idea - this is rather sensible :) Will try to work that in at some (admittedly later) point.
