(0.9.1a-RC8) crash when getting a administrator from ruins
« on: November 03, 2019, 03:04:05 AM »

i am currently scanning all the outer systems in search of [redacted] and good loot and planets to colonize. i have three colonies each run by an administrator. so i have 3/3. i scan a planet in the north-east corner of the sector (as far out as it goes) and then i find a extra admin. i have in the past exceeded the limit for ship commanders and was just able to fire the extra one. but here i get a CTD and a error message something null.

my mods (all up2date):
autosave
console commands
lazylib
portrait pack
skilledup
speedup
version checker

note that at the time of the crash i had the two console commands infinitefuel and infinitesupplies enabled.

starsector.log:

edit: this has happened twice now (in the same system too i think)..

i have reproduced the issue:

1. i explore a ruin with a admin in a pod.
2. i press d to check him/her out and dismiss them.
3. i click on the admin button or whatever
4. CTD with the message "fatal: null check starsector log for more info"

here is the save just before i explore the ruins:

Hi - thank you for the detailed report!

This looks like an issue with the admin's portrait - that is, if a mod providing portraits was updated or disabled and no longer provided the portrait that was picked for the admin, then this crash would happen.

This looks like it's actually fixed for the next release - well, fixed in the sense that it won't crash in that case and will just display no portrait; the underlying issue is a mod update that's incompatible with an ongoing save.
