Haven't got around to playing much of 0.9 (mostly played 0.8 ), but it's pretty difficult to decide. IMO that just shows how well balanced and satisfying the combat ships are (with obvious exceptions for things like combat freighters).

Frigate: It has to be wolf. So versatile and really evolves with both your soft and hard skills. I go graviton beam, ion cannon, 2x PD and 2x swarmers.
Destroyer: SO Hammerhead with 2x HMGs, 2x light mortar or 2x LAG, 2x PD
Cruiser: Aurora with 3x AM blaster in the front, sabot SRM pod, 1x salamander, 2x pulse laser, 1x tac laser (for forcing shields up), 1x ion cannon, 1x pilum LRM and rest as PD
Capital: Odyssey with 1x autopulse and 1x tach lance on the left + burst PD & IR pulse lasers, guardian PD and ion cannons on the right, 3x pilums and xyphos (because they're godlike as backup PD when flux locked or overloading). This was my flagship but I switched it to my best officer when I got a hamburger harbinger

I'm enjoying the Maelstrom from Diable Avionics as my flagship. Have it loaded out with 2 frost escort wanzers, 2 mini flak cannons, 1 dual flak cannon, 8 artillery swarmers to go along with the built in micro missile array, 1 hephaestus assault gun, 3 bulldog autocannons for HE damage, and 8 monogram railguns (legacy of arkgenesis) that do good fragmentation dps at long range. Full vents, flux distributor and stabilized shields with a few extra capacitors provide strong staying power and an integrated targeting unit combined with the built in dampened mounts provides great ability to deal sustained damage at long range. When the advanced avionics bonus kicks in, it saws enemy ships right in half. The flicker core allows it to be piloted very aggressively and that's just alot of fun. I have my battle size set at 350 which gives 210 maximum supply recovery cost allowance, so I'm fielding 2 mayasuran arjuna carriers and 8 shadowyards morningstars with 16 wings of shadowyards neriad interceptor wings among them.

Not really sure what i could do to improve on this fleet though.
