Right, on-going.
Problem is the better an on-going project is funded, the more the creator is rewarded for stretching out progress, making minimal improvements, starting countless polls that cause ever-increasing feature creep and keeping it on-going for as long as the cash is flowing.

This only applies for games in particular, Patreon may or may not work perfectly fine for other projects.

yeah, patreon isn't for funding a project, it's for funding a auteur to keep making art without being bogged down poisoning their work trying to turn a profit in an industry that doesn't want individuals to be capable of succeeding
