Very proud of my little fleet, destroys many things.

Is there any chance of seeing your setup on that tempest? :o I'd love to be able to take out a fleet of that size with a single tempest before CR causes problems.

I rely mostly on cruisers for my fleet, consisting of an apogee, aurora, dominator, heron and a tanky but less punchy high-tech mod cruiser of my own design with fortress shield. The aurora and dominator deal the damage while the pulsar and apogee tank.

Destroyer: a combat carrier from my mod and sometimes an XIV Enforcer.

Frigates: a wolf, a tempest (flagship) and 2 kite (A)s. Usually only the tempest sees action. In fact, I deploy few frigates and destroyers because they are too squishy for the size of fleets I face.

Fighters: about 7 in total consisting of thunders, broadswords, wasps and daggers. I know they are even more squishy than destroyers and frigates but the amount of replacement fighters I can have makes up for that, plus the invincibility, and they make a nice distraction. The daggers can actually be pretty helpful and occasionally swoop in at just the right moment to make a big target go boom.

He probably uses Afflictors (or the entire fleet) to kill the bigger ships.  Tempest and Medusa can have trouble killing Onslaughts piloted by a high-level officer, if they try to solo them.

A lone Hyperion flagship can barely kill a fleet like that.  I would probably send a Dominator flagship to solo that fleet, then send a Lasher in the follow-up pursuit to kill the survivors.

Yeah Afflictors killed that fleet, Tempest was for the pursuit battle that finished the survivors.

How do you kill the  onslaught with a dominator? I can't pull it off because the onslaught outranges the dominator and has more DPS

Now that I'm not using a silly fleet...

Spoiler
[close]
From top to bottom:
  • Valiant Versatile Wing (Fighter) x2
  • Vapor-class Frigate x2 - Interceptors
  • Hayle-class Destroyer - Standoff
  • Calm-class Destroyer - Anti Frigate/Fighter
  • Sledgehammer-class Destroyer - Assault, Smaller Alternate Flagship
  • Fractus-class Carrier (Destroyer) - Support
  • Haze-class Cruiser x2 - Assault/Support
  • Maelstrom-class Battlecruiser - Assault, Flagship
  • Stratus-class Combat Freighter (Destroyer) - Anti Frigate/Fighter
  • Shear-class Tug (Frigate) - PD, Non-Combat

The doctrine behind the fleet is simply to overwhelm with as much focused missile ordinance as possible; Destroyer and up all have ECCM and expanded missile racks where possible. Strong PD is another focus. Anything destroyer or smaller gets annihilated handily with sheer alpha strike, and kinetic focused weaponry helps set up anything larger for the same. The Maelstrom is similar, but instead it's designed to (recklessly) wade through escorts to take out capital ships.

The theme is Diable, though I do use weapons and a ship not of that faction.

The Maelstrom solos like a champ, but I prefer to do proper deployments, if only to see the map fill up with little green blips and the initial spam of disabled frigates.

How do you kill the  onslaught with a dominator? I can't pull it off because the onslaught outranges the dominator and has more DPS
Onslaught does not have that much more range than Dominator.  Combined with the AI's weakness of Burn Driving when it should not, it is possible for Dominator to solo Onslaught one-on-one.  Elite Onslaught with the right officer can be difficult, but not insurmountable.  Dominator is like a mini-Onslaught.  Without TPCs, Onslaught does not have that much more firepower than Dominator.  I hang back at maximum range, fire and vent spam when safe, and burn drive to the side if it burn drives to me.

I do not have an easy answer.  It can be a tough fight, just use known dirty tricks and exploits.

I arm my Dominators with two Mjolnir, two Heavy Maulers, and three Pilums.  That is a lot of firepower by cruiser standards.

I'm wrapping up my current Nexerelin playthrough as Mayorate with a bunch of other faction mods.  I used a Mayorate Del Azarchel as my flagship for a long time, then switched to a Victory battleship (DR's Ship and Weapon Pack), and finally a Mayorate Ravana.  While I was using the Del Azarchel I was attacking the last pirate station in the sector.  After stomping their defense fleet, I captured this hidden gem: a pirate Stalker cruiser (Underworld).  I normally don't care for pirate ships unless it's earlygame and I need every ship I can get, but I decided to mess with this one a bit and was surprised with the results.

Max OPs from tech/weapon skills
heavy autocannon
4 light assault guns, autofire and alternating
hailfire chainguns for PD
large ballista rack

It has nice range thanks to the ballistas, targeting unit, and sensor drones.  I got it so late in the game that I didn't really get to use it much and mostly piloted my battleships, so I may play pirate in my next game and cheat myself a Stalker with similar loadout but no hull mods to start the game with. (edit: Nexerelin lets you choose a Stalker with a Buffalo(D) and Venom as one of the starting setups)

I also messed with the Omnifactory a bit.  I normally don't use it but this time I replicated a regular Wolf, Wolf(D), and Diable Vapor.  The Vapor was the real star here.  I set up a loadout with max caps/vents and two plasma flamers.  For hull mods I used Safety Overrides, Unstable Injector, Expanded Magazines, and Insulated Engine Assembly.  The result was a stupidly fast pursuit ship: not great for a serious fight but fun to fly when chasing convoys or mopping up defeated fleets.  I kept two Vapors as well as three regular Wolves and three D-grade Wolves with Unstable Injectors and random weapons to deploy from the left and right.

The closest picture I could get to representing my fleet was an old fleet picture of an aftermath with a bounty battle.

The closest to a current fleet i'd run is this one here

More pictures coming soon (hopefully)

i fly a Shade with 4 Wolfs.

the Wolfs can keep up with they Shade and 4 of them is the maximum you can have to use the "Large Escort" command, or whatever it's called.
this way, i can keep my 'mates out of troubles and have total control over where i want to strike  ;)

i like to to play with this setup, the fleet had a Burn Drive of 10 and i can go quickly from system to system where the bounty is plentiful.  :)
