that sounds.. reasonable.

actually, if you sacrifice the medium mounts as well, you could even go with 10. the only ones not able to mount small energy weapons will be the medium synergy slots, since multi-type mounts don't allow for downscaling.

Even cruisers have difficulty providing large numbers of antimatter blasters with sufficient flux capacity to fire simultaneously when you have built up a bit of flux. The Doom only has a base of 10,000 flux capacity, phase cloaking generates hard flux, 8 antimatter blaster shots generate 12,000 flux and 10 antimatter blaster shots generate 15,000. You might be able to get the full first salvo off, but the second and later salvos are not terribly likely to be full salvos.

No point sacrificing medium mounts for antimatter blasters.  Use mining blasters instead; half the damage, but can be re-fired much more quickly.

psh, details!

i wasn't really suggesting that it would be a competitive loadout. :P

but the point of the Antimatter Blasters on the Doom would be the fact that their huge firing delay is not a big deal due to the new phase cloaks. so doing half the damage per shot but with much shorter delay doesn't really matter in that respect. of course, Mining Blasters will likely still be superior even on a Doom, but they might not be as crazy and fun!

Problem with Antimatter Blasters is the reload time is numbingly long.  "Are we there, yet?  Are we there, yet? ..."

^ Yep, I agree. Thing is, time slows down for the ship itself, meaning if you're piloting the ship, you'd still have to wait for the AM Blaster to cooldown in real time, regardless of being in p-space or not. And giving the AI a boatload of AM Blasters isn't really viable since it's just an overload waiting to happen.

We do not have 0.7.2's time-altering phase cloak yet.  I was referring to the past and present, when phase cloak stills acts as poor man's Fortress Shield.  Even so, time will probably still a problem because of peak performance.
