anti-phase ship behaviour might be too extreme
« on: January 18, 2025, 09:32:00 AM »

I wanted to post this under bugs. But chose to post it to suggestions instead. As this is intended behaviour, it just feels suboptimal

this was what they were hiding from btw

It's important to underline that due to the space station both sites are now at a deadlock. Except the one that chooses to perform this manoeuvre will now deplete its entire peak operating time. As the station applies a massive peak operating time presence to all the opposing ships

Please consider turning this behaviour off when phase ships are not the only enemy around. This mechanic is extremely practical when fighting phase ship monofleets like those of mercenaries. But encountering 2 Gremlins and a Paragon should not force the entire fleet to laser-focus on countering the 2 Gremlins. Unless this is how it works and this is a bug. In that case, I apologise for not posting this to bugs instead.

Are you sure the web of escort orders didn't cause that? From the screenshot it appears like your faster ships got told to hang around the slow capital.

there was no defense order. The Executor had a large escort. But the Furies actually had escorts, meaning the fleet would send a few ships to follow them and then continue onward. No defense order was given. This has never happened to me even though I have been using this pattern throughout my entire playthrough.
My playthrough is slightly modded, using alternative values in config files. But I do not believe anything I have done would affect the AI to such an extreme extent as to create this behaviour. Especially considering that it can be easily replicated in vanilla already

I think the issue here is it not properly detecting that there's an enemy station deployed; this would actually only happen for the tier-1 stations, I think. Should be fixed up!

I had a similar issue when fighting some pathers a while ago, I went to make some tea while my fleet cleaned them up but when I came back despite only a couple of enemy frigates being left my fleet was just sitting in one big useless pile because of one LP gremiln so I had to take control of one of my auroras from my "aggressive" officer and hunt the gremlin down myself. I've also seen situations where both my fleet and the enemy fleet let themselves get surrounded and killed because of one phase ship on the opposing side that is not even doing anything. Has anyone seen this clumping behaviour EVER help against phase ships? Because I feel like it only causes problems.

It should only be happening if there are only phase frigates left on the opposing side. If it's happening when there are still other types of ships left then that's a bug and you should report it. Also I believe you can override it with full assault.

It's never useful because I just assign a couple escorts to any ship at risk to phase ships.
@Alex for next patch, it may be a good idea to just remove this behavior and create a subsection of the fleet command AI that exists purely to counter player phase ships by assigning escort orders. That or assign is to a new command, similar to full assault. That way the player can turn it off and on at will.
