i just wanted to say that i really like this game
« on: December 19, 2024, 02:39:05 AM »

it's kinda sad that I don't have the lot chances to say that i like this game without sounding like im trying to make up for the criticisms i have. Generally I tend to whine a lot about how the balance doesn't work. Like I say "omg, Gremlin, why doesn't Gremlin freaking... Solve world hunger".

And I understand that if I were the developer of the game putting up with all the things. All the constant suggestions, and all the constant whining. And all the constant attempts at changing the things towards someone else's direction, then I would probably go insane. So, I just wanted to write a letter of some sort in which I just express the things I like about the game... But at the same time, that might accidentally sound like criticism again... Me saying "oh, these things are good, that means everything else is bad".

I guess, what I wanted to say with this is that there are a lot of games that don't understand how to be good. There are a lot of games that are extremely shallow, that lack anything interesting to them that would keep the player interested. Sure, they are art still. Sure, everything is always something. But I just wanted to say that I really appreciate Starsector. Its writing, its mechanical depth. The fact that it was designed by someone who clearly spent their entire life mastering a concept to make it work. Starsector feels like a game that wasn't an afterthought, but was a game that was meant to actually last. It's like a really convoluted painting. Or a dream made true. And not a dream as in something someone wants to achieve in their life. Though it seems like something like that. A dream as in an entirely new reality which we can experience and have our perspectives changed by. I feel like there are a lot of people who played Starsector and were changed forever. Including me... And that isn't something we talk about, because our culture is generally programmed to criticise people more for their lack, than to appreciate them for their values. Which is another concept I enjoy whining about. The educational system, the job market. The economy. Etc.

Which is also bringing me to my next point. That Starsector is an actual competent jab at capitalism. Not only as a story, but also as an execution. A show that you don't need the money large enough to construct a B-2 Bomber to make something worth experiencing. A show of that we can all be truly Luddic Church rebel citizens in our own homestead. Creating something unique that will be greatly appreciated eventually...

I guess it's a proof of the value of the human soul...
