Color me surprised, I find myself liking the piano version a lot more than the other one! You'd think it wouldn't fit the overall existing musical theme of the game, but it just works here.

This is so cool, as a budding pianist myself it is very interesting to learn about the process of creating music the way you do!

  • Excellent imagination, mediocre implementation.

Chainsaw?
As far as I can tell. It's a... idk how else to describe the sound, it sounds like a distant 2-stroke engine starting under load then speeding up right before stopping - much like a chainsaw.

I have some ideas but can't sprite worth a damn and the ideas imply really involved stuff which I've no clue how to even tackle.

Super cool, i'm eager to see more locations receive their musics. I guess Volturn might be next on the list, as this place feels quite different from the centralized authoritarian diktat. If Volturn ever receive a unique theme, i could also see Umbra, the pirate world, get the same music. It would be an interesting way to show that both planets escape, to some extent, the diktat's grip.

Also, i'm a bit late, but i wanted to say that the exploration music was a very nice addition.

I like it. Fits the theme of the place well.

The alternating chords are something that contributes a lot to that, but I wouldn't notice them without it being pointed out.

These are cool ideas! Most of the new music still on the way is leaning towards more multi-purpose (non-unique) tracks for the campaign mode but maybe there's room for more special location stuff down the road.

New music has always been on / never left the development drawing board. As the game grows, so do the audio asset needs, after all!

The curious and surprising thing for me has been the accruing difficulty of composing new material in the context of a decade plus of doing this! Every new thing has to fit in with the old stuff and the world of Starsector is getting more detailed and fleshed out all the time. I'm also not the same composer I was 12 years ago when I started, and with that you kinda end up being in constant debate with your younger self. It's the best and also weirdest experience I've ever had making music!

I don't think the new music fits stylistically with the other tracks, or the game.
It feels like videogame OST, not like my schizo head playing music on its own, like the older OST.

The main feedback I'd have, although it'd ultimately be more work, is that I feel like Galatia itself and Provost Baird should have different themes. Complimentary themes, mind you, but when you're meeting with Baird, it's typically a quite different experience than getting some odd jobs from Sebestyen or jawing away with some of the other folks who come to call Galatia home.

The extant theme works well for the latter, but for the former... I'm not quite sure it will work as well.

Still, this is really neat to see and I'm glad the game's soundscape is expanding!
