out of curiosity, does the "textureType":[string fringe, string core], still supported? (ie, letting us add our own beam textures)

Yeah, it is. Since it's not actually used anywhere, I can't vouch that it
works

Not at the moment
I think at some point I'll just do a pass of "make minor things that ought to be moddable actually moddable" and this kind of thing would fall under that.
