Is scanned derelicts disappear after a mission?

So i got a strange disappearance. Ship originally was target of the mission to scan derelict. And disappeared then i visited system after a bit of time. No big deal but i was back to salvage it for fuel/cargo but ship just not here but second orbiting object - domain probe is intact. PS Ok problem kind of solved i found my ship but not in orbit of a star as it was originally but half-map square away not in orbit just sitting in place.
