General Discussion / Re: What is your favorite pursuit ship?

Not sure why you feel the need to preemptively defend the way you prefer to play a singleplayer game, especially one that's still in development and offers all kinds of not-exactly-balanced mods (looking at you Knights Templar).
I'm mostly wondering because you made a somewhat similar post in that mod thread you necro'd, so maybe that's a personal issue on your part, as I have yet to see anyone in this forum trying to tell others how to play the game.

Ah, just a natural reflex of "just in case" at this point (blame other forums in the past). Indeed a personal issue of sorts. Sorry about that. :-\

To stay on topic: I've yet to try 80-90% of the ships out but anything that's fast and big enough with a lot of big ballistic mounting points like the Falcon and Eagle is my kind of ship. I have taken a look at most of tri-tachyon's ships in the codex but can't quite figure out how to play with them or how to use energy weapons properly because the playstyle seems to require a different approach to combat (it's why in RPG games I play a warrior/barbarian instead of a mage or a rouge/assassin).

On a side note, decided to add a second built-in hellbore cannon for the customized Hermit-class of mine and tweaked some of its stats. Liked that ship when I first saw its sprite when googling about Starsector's ships and was surprised to find that the ship in the TUP mod has varied weapon mounts already, most I changed to universal for more variety.
Hermit along with a wing of two Raider Mk2's all ships customized/OP for my own playing pleasure when I decide to go freelance, pirate or a privateer playing route. Utility ship that has been to turned to deal with heavy-duty combat, trading and raiding has its priceless charm for me.

The other playstyle I have that doesn't require modding is having a ship that's close to Falcon or the Eagle more or less and have some sort of cargo/fuel ship(s) in the fleet too to store marines and the spoils of battle aftermath.

Manual choice of which enemy ship to save for boarding the most would sure be welcome. I fully agree.

On a side note I'm probably the idiot here who used a fully maxed out Hammerhead for a while last time I played Starsector which was like more than a year ago.

I barely look at what skills give or do about half the time, can't really blame me for not wanting to read much and wanting to play the game with maxed out everything instead.

That aside, it's a neat thing indeed as I just checked.

preferably locked behind a skill tree to maintain vanilla balance

Aye. The more skill the less casualties. Basically a sort of a boarding relating skill that opens up a few more dialog options and chances to possibly keep more marines alive. That's, yeah basically what I was thinking of.

I've have used Falcon and Eagle as my pursuit ships in the past when I first played the game. Had them all at insane OP points to install everything but I remember them being still slow.

It's a different story now as I modded-in the Hermit-class ship from Tore Up Plenty mod as my personal ship of doom and 20 max speed even in a nebula or having transponder off.
I've always cheated in SP games and I always will, it's how I play my games and that's about it, anybody who thinks my choice of playing a game how I want is wrong or unfun as it is clearly fun for me for over a decade now and I prefer to avoid this "oh you shouldn't cheat" boll yotz, are we clear? Good. Because I'm having none of the anti-cheat arguments anymore as I'm too old for that dren.

But yeah. The super customized Hermit-class I'm using has almost all of the hull mods installed and it's weaponry: One built-in hellbore cannon, light dual mgs almost everywhere, one of the lasers on the left side (the name of it slips my mind plus I need to change that weapon slot with different one anyway), anti-fighter swarmer missiles in all four missile slots and to top it off: a chaingun. been using all of those weapons on my ship and I find it quite fun. Everything's maxed out on the ship of course.

Yeah, have had a ship or two blown up in the past too. Not sure either how the new boarding mechanic works but at least the ship of mine hasn't blown up due to boarding.

All I can say is that I do prefer some sort of a boarding minigame even if it is through dialog and in hopes of lessening the dead marines.

Mods / Re: [0.7.2a] Diable Avionics 1.63 (10/04/2016)

Have had this mod installed for a several days now. Interesting variety of ships that I have yet to try out along with new weapons, did try the combat freighter Stratus a bit but got blown up because I'm not used to playing games legit but that's besides the point as its something I can fix for myself.

Definitely an interesting faction besides pirates and independents IMHO as I like their aggressive attitude towards other factions and getting new tech even if it means crossing all sorts of lines and madness like I feel recently. A faction I'm planning to join mainly due to ships and to give the middle finger to diplomacy/other factions with their constant bickering and RP this "take what you can, give nothing back!" without being a pirate.

Because it feels good to be a sort of dreaded entity in a game sometimes.

This mod definitely deserves some updating love due to ships alone so I went ahead and made the Hermit-class along with Raider and Raider Mk2 playable for myself in the recent version of 0.7.2a. I set it up in such a way that I can only get the ship and the wing craft for it through Console Commands mod (need my main ship to be unique and exclusive to me anyway).
Yeah, yeah I'm a big time cheater in SP games since time immemorial. It's how I play games and every game is a lot more fun for me when I'm the OP god being. My reasons, my computer. I play how I wanna play, capiche?

That aside and not to get off-topic. From what I've seen of the mod from images, well I only have looked at ship sprites the most and the "She's tore up a plenty, but she'll fly true" quote and some descriptions of the mod made me insta love the theme as I'm bit of a fan of Firefly/Serenity too and for me, Hermit-class was the ship I chose and made so much more superior config-wise.

Sorry for necro-posting, just incase.. but it is a mod and it needs some more love, IMO. If anyone feels like laying morals on me then I'm having none of it anymore, my nerves recently broke and you might as well talk to a wall. If this mod doesn't get updated well, whatever. I already got the sprites which I can refurbish for recent version for myself only but it'd be nice to try the mod eventually.
