Hello Starsector friends! I put together a guide video going over how to upgrade to Java 8, increase ram allocation, and increase the Battlesize setting for a bigger and smoother Starsector experience!

https://youtu.be/2pcUZKkgbxY?si=TjTlwHRlBhN5H2o5]https://youtu.be/2pcUZKkgbxY?si=TjTlwHRlBhN5H2o5

The Java 8 version featured is update v271, which I believe is the most stable and easiest version to get working. If you'd like a written guide, Wisp, our local Starsector tech wizard, has an excellent guide here on the forum: https://fractalsoftworks.com/forum/index.php?topic=25974.0

-After switching to java 8, if you are having issues with the launcher / resolution / screen ***: Right-click Starsector.exe -> properties -> compatibility -> change high DPI settings -> tick checkbox for "Override...Scaling performed by Application".

Hope you enjoy!

Hello my friends, I'm IroncladLion.

I'm putting together a massive tutorial & walkthrough series to get new players started with the game, specifically the campaign. Tried to make it as high-quality as I could manage and stick to the important information.
Would appreciate any feedback (and please share with any new players who might need some help)!

I've been looking around for quite awhile and tried several things without much luck. I understand I need to go into the settings to change a few numbers but I'd like to know exactly what I need to do.

I'm trying to increase the amount of ships (on both sides) that can be deployed into battle at once. I have a very strong computer so I'm not worried about the stress it may cause. I just want large fleet battles :D and I'm tired of only being able to send in 1-2 capital ships in every fight. Also, I looked into other threads about this but some of them are from six years ago and I'd love an up to date answer for everyone.

Now, I have found in the settings:
"minBattleSize":150, # in supplies-to-recover. min value for settings slider
"defaultBattleSize":250, # in supplies-to-recover. starting tvalue for settings slider
"maxBattleSize":500, # in supplies-to-recover. max value for settings slider

Is this what I'm supposed to be changing? What will each of these effect? And will I need to start a new game for these settings to take effect or will they immediately start effecting current saves?

General Discussion / Completely Empty System With No Fuel
« on: March 20, 2016, 01:29:52 AM »
So, as the title explains, how do I deal with this situation? I went exploring, (I'm still very new to the game) and I have 40,000 credits but I'm come to a new system: Penelope's Star, which has no market whatsoever. So I have no way to restock on fuel as I'm out. So I essentially have no way to leave the system.

What EXACTLY am I supposed to do in this situation. The game has given me a problem which I cannot solve. Do I have to simply let my fleet fall apart and be replaced by a new starter ship? I have plenty of money but no way to get out of this situation.
