They were a godsend early on, fielding fighters and a low resupply cost. I eventually phased them put for for more combat oriented light carriers when I shifted to faction warfare.

I really liked that they offered cheap fighter support, and were vulnerable to strike forces. Just kinda seemed like the perfect balance. Sometimes when a ship can do everything well its a turn off

This is probably the wrong place to ask, but I tried googling this info and searching the forums and I can't figure it out.

I am having some trouble with kill fleets, I can beat them but its very difficult and I usually lose a couple few destroyers. Its gotten to the point where I just try to outrun them because it seems like no matter how many I kill, another is right around the corner.

Are they part of the base game or is it something introduced by a mod? Is there a way to disable them? Thanks for any info. Its a great challenge but it seems way too frequent.

Everytime I come back to this game, a bunch of things have been added and I lose myself in it for a couple months, getting probably another 100 hours of entertainment out of it. I've noticed I play completely differently than many other people who write about their experiences, and each run is different than the last.

Somebody mentioned in this thread that if you can't handle toxic communities you shouldn't be part of online communities. That explicit gatekeeping was very funny to read, and I'm glad starsector is doing its own thing.

Game publishing these days is terrible. DLC's is paying for content that should have been in release, and lootboxes are literally gambling. We could dig a little deeper and find some really dysfunctional development practices. Anyone advocating corporate publishing methods is a very well trained consumer, hooked into this "give us everything, your money, your friend list, your data, your psychological profile."

Starsector is an incredible product, and I'm proud of its development. There is plenty of corporate developing going on out there, if starsector isn't babying you enough then go give rockstar 10$ every month for another hat for your avatar.

The soft cap thing is kind of neat. Sometimes I want to just add a ton of ships so that I can field an equal number of ships as my opponent in battle. For instance I'm pretty sure the larger fleet is allowed to field a larger proportion of ships, but it gets really frustrating if my opponent can field 2 capitals + a little support and I can only field a cap and a cruiser.

Morbo's answer while not 100% a perfect solution, is easily doable.

More seriously, just started using DME and I really like the normandie and d'erlon carriers. They look cool and are great support ships which don't stray outside their roles which is nice.

Its funny because mods have some pretty cool large missile mounts, like the trebuchet launcher which is probably hella OP.

What are the best missile ships? For example I really like having a Conquest capital ship around because it has 2 large missile and 2 medium missile mounts which amounts to a pleasing amount of missile spam. It seems any small ships with medium universal mounts I stick missiles in there and try to get some good missile spam going.

Really I just like having tons of missiles fly around while I pew pew in a sunder or karkino

Not sure if it was addressed already somewhere in the thread, but do I want the JDK or JRE?

I figured I would only need the end user version but wasnt sure. Thank you!

Edit- It seems obvious that I only need JRE, its just that the link was to JDK so I thought I'd ask

Yeah this game is mad fun, in my last playthrough the other factions relations were changing quite frequently and were not at all where they were when I started the game.

I have another question (sorry for the double post)

When a bunch of messages pop up on the left side of the screen, sometimes I can't read all of them before they fade away. Some of them I can press "e" and pull up intel to read them, but not all of them appear there. Is there some way to read them after they fade? Or some way to make them not fade when I hit pause maybe?

Thanks in advance, and this game friggin rules. And so do the modders, what a nice community.

Also is it possible to take over stations like in nexerelin?

I have a question about burn speed on the campaign map. In addition x I had 1 capital ship and 1 tug that gave me a burn speed of 6, and when I buy an additional capital ship my burn speed drops to 5. So I buy another tug to get to burn speed of 6, but it stays at 5.

I also have overdrive shunts and the skill that gives burn speed to capital ships. My fleet probably has 8-10 other ships that are all at 6 burn or higher.

Is this because my fleet is so large? I figured 2 capital ships was probably pushing it, its just so much fun though haha.

Edit - I realized one of my cap ships was burn 4 and the other burn 5, and that explains that. Apologies

Thank you histidine, thats pretty cool that we can customize it like that.

In my most recent start the mayorate got wiped out by the AI factions right off the bat, and by the time I was level 16 almost all the factions had become peaceful to one another with the exception of the pirates and junk pirates, which I thought was pretty funny.
