There's no gameplay yet to make any judgements. Dogfighting is out come December, then we can see the fighting aspect. The rest of the game? Late 2014.

Updated with my new ship, the Anvil Aerospace F7C Hornet and the Business Hangar.

Me and Cappy have basically dropped Starsector for now. There's nothing really to do anymore, and there kinda hasn't been for quite some time.

Tis a shame, this used to be a lovely place. I'm now far more resident of the RSI forums. Come join me, the community there can be as decent as it is(was?) here and worse/better IDK

Now this has been unlocked, I'd like to say this all looks really amazing. The new combat sounds are amazing, they sound far heavier and darker, with lovely amounts of bass (my headphones have a tendency to rattle at the lower ends of the bass spectrum, making this sound very real) and this almost looks like a whole new game from the detail in the update. 3 updates in 1 almost (1 misc overhaul, 1 combat feature update + CR, multiple systems + hyperspace etc.)

Lookup 1080p youtube videos of people with the deluxe hangar and the constellation. its so beautiful.
Yeah, Cappy showed me his on Skype. It's utterly gorgeous, made me want to buy one to add to my collection. It's a bit poorly designed on the interior though, the P52 Merlin occupies toe sole way of getting cargo into the (sizable!) bay, and it would be tough to unload the Merlin in space and then reload it.

I just... wow.

Unoptimized. Basic graphical presets with no advanced options. I run maxed at 1080p for about 30FPS minimum up to about 60 on my 7970.
But this game... it's... so gorgeous. Even in the dingy, dimly lit discount hangar the level of detail on everything is just stunning. Sitting in my cockpit and looking around feels great, now just need to wait for December to actually dogfight with my 325A and Aurora LX.

I really like this actually, reminds me a lot of older games sci-fi soundtracks.
Hell, make it faster and it could be an awesome WipEout tune!

I play Casimir III in Brave New World, would pick Nebby if I could and am currently exploring other civs. I only really enjoy playing massive game worlds (IE 1:1 scale of Earth with 22 civs etc.)

That won't be the screen. That'll be the GPU. Flickering lines are the most common kind of GPU artifact. Send it back.

I just picked up a pair of V-Moda M80s. Holy hell are they wonderful. They sound just stunning, look great, feel great etc.

My worry about this game is that it will just not be particularly fun. What little I've seen about the gameplay so far suggest that it might become a very beautiful, detailed and enlarged Wing Commander. Wing Commander feels quite slow and generic to me nowadays.

I'm actually more excited for Enemy Starfighter, where the innovation comes in form of new mechanics.
I think currently they're really focusing hard on making it look very good, designing it well, making the lore, designing gameplay elements etc.

There's a lot of gameplay, just not coded yet.

Discussions / What to buy?
« on: June 29, 2013, 08:43:13 AM »
I had a birthday about four odd days ago, and I'm now sitting on £109. I have no idea what to spend it on. Here's some stuff.
1. I have pledged $80 to Star Citizen for the Arbiter package but come tomorrow I will have enough (if I reclaim) to get the $275 Rear Admiral package. That's possible.
2. I would love a Cherry MX Blue mechanical keyboard. I'm looking preferably at a tenkeyless model like a CoolerMaster Quickfire TK.
3. I bought the new Tau codex. I could get a number of units. £130+ would get me a fair army larger than any I currently own.
4. Sit on it and buy a PS4 come Christmas. I want Kingdom Hearts 3. Badly.

Thoughts?

Suggestions / Re: Default to maximum zoom out.

Speaking as someone who used to play with dev mode zoom, I find the tactical benefits of a large zoom really huge. It stops me defaulting to the map screen to see everything.

Suggestions / ESD (Electrostatic Death) White Out
« on: June 28, 2013, 03:16:05 PM »
ESD is the destruction of computer parts by accidental shocks from static electricity build up.
If it were possible to mod the blinding flash of ships being destroyed in Starsector, one could totally turn the white out into a fuzz out as hardware is bombarded with radiation from the recently slain ship.
Genius idea.

I don't know of a program, but if you remove the cover of your pc and get a screwdriver you could poke the videocard with your screwdriver every time your ship gets hit.
I'm not sure how effective that would be. The card is grounded by the PSU anyway
