General Discussion / Re: Starting scenario bonuses

Exactly, I am a returning player though, and what I most enjoy is that struggle to the top, selling a few things here and there, saving for my first ships etc.

I don't really want to start with a disadvantage or an advantage.
But you asked how to start with a disadvantage. Stipends are part of every starting scenario except the spacer start. It's just part of the game now, but so is having a monthly payment for crew, officers, and storage.

I'm not aware of any starting scenario breakdowns, but the game does a precise job of listing the effects of the options you choose.

You could use console commands to neutralize your relations with the hegemony. Pretty sure that would be:
setrelation hegemony 0

I never asked for a disadvantage, only a neutral start.

Also the breakdown for the options I start with only gives vague information, i.e 'You are a bounty hunter flying a Wolf class frigate.' and some extra information regarding the ship type.

I suppose now with the new fees and costs, the stipend does help balance things out a little bit, and help get the ball rolling in terms of progress.

There is spacer start (which you need to unlock in config file). It gives you a crappy weapon-slot-less shuttle and negative income each month (-1000* level).

I don't really want to start with a disadvantage or an advantage.

I really would just like the start from the older version, where I had no income, a wolf and neutral alignment with all factions.
This was a nice balanced start, and let me kind of make it on my own, without being either cripplingly handicapped, or lavished with free credits.

Hi guys, returning player here, have no played Starsector for over 3 years, and am so far really liking all the juicy updates.

I have a question regarding the scenarios given at the start of the game.
My first start I chose the Wolf, and began with missions given by the Hegemony, which were fun, but I was looking for more of a bare-bones, open ended start like the old version I played.

I tried an alternate start but found I waa given a $15k monthly income and another $18k by the Hegemony.

Is there a breakdown of each starting scenario and what bonuses are given with each option?
I remember the older vesion when I started with just a Wolf and $4k, and had to make it on my own.

This ship is the worst.
#1 - This ship is one of the best ships in the game according to many people. ;)

#2, more importantly - you just rezzed a 3-year old thread. :P

I stupidly realised that after refitting it had not saved thr flux vents and capacitors I had added.. so I was playing with none of either and getting owned.

I now see that it's a powerful and fun ship to use. :P

You guys must play on Easy, because I tried the Enforcer with the HVD/Mauler setup and it's utterly useless.

Cannot solo with Enforcer, Medusa eats this thing for breakfast.

I am trying to add a Plasma Cannon, but addweapon is not working for me, it worked when I added a weapon already in my inventory.

I assume the weapon ID is just the name of the weapon? it seems to not like spaces in the weapon name..

It says 'add 1 of weapon null to player inventory' but when I check there is nothing there.

Damn, I am in bed with the Tri-Tachyon so naturally the Hegemony hate me lol.

I am just a sucker for those blue flame thrusters..

I see, I might console commands it, I struggle to do well with the Apogee without it..

Thanks!

So I am level 52 now, and still cannot find a Plasma Cannon anywhere for my Apogee.

Tri-Tach military doesn't seem to ever stock it, anyone know where to find it?

I used to make Leadership 10 and 'Making Do' a priority as it allowed me to field a larger fleet, or a large supply cost capital much earlier in the game, I agree that now it seems like more of a low priority late game stat.

Damn, that sucks, losing crew is not that much of an issue really, I don't feel as though it is worth getting 10 in Leadership as it was previously as 50% less crew was a huge money saver, and would mean not having to carry so many supplies.

On a side note, are you able to remove points with the Console Commands mod? I would like to be able to reassign my points from Leadership into Combat now.

Has the way the number of crew in your fleet and their supply use changed?

I acquired 'Making Do' which reduced the amount of crew required to half, which I remember used to mean that the supplies required were also halved.
Strangely now my fleet uses the same amount of supplies whether or not I have the minimum required crew or the maximum possible crew.

Kind of feels like a waste of those extra 5 points now..

General Discussion / Courageous (crazy?) Small enemy groups
« on: January 20, 2016, 02:23:03 AM »
So I am not sure quite how the mechanics work in terms of how an enemy fleet decides to attack, but when I am cruising around with my Paragon, Buffalo and small Tanker, I end up being attacked by much lesser tiny fleets,  usually Pirates, sometimes consisting of only 3 frigates.

It seems as though they view me as only a single combat ship, but don't seem to mind that I am a fully loaded Capital ship that ends up destroying them before my shield is even fully raised.

It's not a huge deal, it makes them seem a bit crazy, which kind of works from a role playing point of view, but it can be a little bit annoying when travelling long distances..

Love the update by the way!
