Hi Alex.  Long time fan of game. Thanks so much for .9 , what a hell of a good time, one of the best 15$ I've ever spent. I'll save all my general feedback and praise for another thread  :)

I think I ran into a bug. I haven't found anyone else mention it.

Basically my faction does seem to exist.   I started a colony, and had the faction naming screen pop up.  I set my empires name and flag.  It was really late at night though on my first big play session of the game (using the first RC) so I dunno, maybe I hit cancel?  Not sure.

But in any case my faction doesnt seem to exist. I have seen 0 mention of it anywhere.  I have two colonies.   A friend plays the game and he says his colony's fleets are labelled with his faction name and flag/colors, but mine just are grey, they show as friendly but no mention of my faction. I also assumed my faction would show on the faction page?  Not sure if that is the case but mine does not (if it's supposed to).

Besides this lack of mention everything seems to be working okay in terms of the colony mechanics etc, it seems the AI factions just treat me as regular player character w/o a faction who happens to have a few colonies. As this is the case I really don''t want to start a new game as I'm pretty far along and having a blast, doesn't seem to cause any mechanic breaking issues.

Thanks again for this brilliant game.

General Discussion / .7a marines and ship take over totally unbalanced
« on: December 01, 2015, 06:52:31 PM »
Been loving .7 tons, but a couple of niggles here and there.

Not sure if many others have talked about this, but wanted to bring up my biggest complaint with the current version: taking over ships is completely unbalanced.

The numbers don't make any sense for why you would want to take over a ship after a battle ImHO.

First off, marines are very expensive, usually you are paying 700-800 credits, right. For almost all ships, it seems that it would be cheaper to buy the ship than it would be to commandeer it in battle, especially considering how many supplies it would take to fix up after.

I imagine the price of marines in relation to green crew and ships. If a green crew guy is 40 credits, and an entire fighter wing is 10,000, then 11 or 12 marines should not equal 250 green crew members or a wing of advanced fighter ships.

Second, the battle numbers don't make sense. In prior versions you could decide how many people to send over. Now that you can't, often the numbers are ridiculous. As an example, today when playing, I had the chance to board a disabled Lasher. The Lasher had ------1------ guy alive on the ship. I had about 70 or 80 marines. I chose to attack, and I lost 44 (!!!) marines killing this one dude defender. Like what, was the defender Arnold Schwartzneggar or something lol.  Needless to say I'm giving up ever boarding again in .7a after this.

I realize the dev team wanted to make boarding a rare and challenging thing, but as it is now, the pendulum has swung too far the other way. There just doesn't seem to be any good reason to board at all anymore.
