Suggestions / Squads

I'm not sure if this has already been suggested (I mostly just check the blog to see if there is a new update and don't peruse the forums often); however, I think a squad system would be pretty cool. By squad I mean at the fleet screen you can assign certain ships to miniature squads (e.g. 2 lashers 1 talon 1 broadsword in alpha squad, 1 dominator 2 hounds 1 lasher 3 talon in beta squad, and 1 hyperion 2 tempest 2 xyhpos in charlie squad.) This would allow you to group ships according to how you want to use them and would make micromanaging easier. So I could make alpha squad (my quick ships [possibly with emp?]) move to the outer edge of the map while beta squad (the main fleet) engaged the enemy head on and charlie captured objectives; I could then have alpha close around behind the enemy and emp all the things.
Just something to think about. :P

Discussions / How well do we all know eachother?

This is a (I guess game?) I have seen on other forums; however, the other forums have a massive amount of people on them and generally no one knows eachother.
So the game(?) is simple, just quote someone else's name and say how often you see them on the forums and what you remember them by.
For instance I see "UpgradeCap" in a ton of threads and he seems to be really active with this game and started some mod that starts with a "C" (I can't remember the whole name :P).

 I don't know if this has been asked before (or even actually done already - I have been preoccupied in other things for the past few months) but I think a time-lapse of you drawing a ship would be really cool to watch, and informative for the modding scene.
 I understand you are very busy but if you find the time I think this could be a cool look into what goes through your mind while spriting.

Modding / My first (few) ships

I finally got around to making a ship and this is it!
It's a frigate centered around the large energy point.

Edit: I made a new ship, the Käfer (beetle), (the design was somewhat inspired by my guitar :P)
P.S. Enormous thanks to Psiyon for giving me the knowledge on how to paint your own design without just kitbashing <3.
Edit2: Added the Pyrus. I'm pretty happy with it but I think it could use an extra...something. Any suggestions?

Personally it is my favorite ship in the game, it looks awesome and the flux capacity and dissipation is awesome.
If you put an anti matter blaster on it and a burst pd laser and harpoons it isn't THAT bad...is it?

General Discussion / Apogee

So I recently bought the Apogee cause I thought it looked cool and I liked the one large weapon slot. However, the weapon layout seems a bit wonky. The two front-facing small energy hardpoints don't seem to have any purpose, there isn't really any small energy weapon with enough range or damage to warrant a forward hardpoint on a cruiser, and the two medium slots don't really reach the front of the ship. Also it only has two small turrets so the point defense isn't very widespread. Am I just equipping it wrong? Does anyone know any good setups for it?

The idea is that low tech guns and ships would be less valuable for higher tech buyers (like the Tri-Tach) and high tech stuff would be more valuable for low tech buyers (Pirates, Hegemony). So if you found an anti-matter blaster it would sell for more at a pirate shop than a Tri-Tach shop. Any thoughts on this?

General Discussion / Phase/VLRM/Repair Station etc.

So I was goofing around in the sprite section looking for stuff to attempt and make a ship sprite from and I noticed a bunch of sprites that weren't currently in use in the game such as: Repair stations, repair drones, phase frigates, and 3 stage vlrm's.
Any insight as to what role these will play in the future?

I was surfing the Modding section of the forums for sprites I could use to make a ship or two; however, almost every sprite I have seen had a different style to it. None of them can replicate the way the original game sprites look. I was wondering, how does David make the sprites seem so cool?

Modding / Sprite request

I finished my first ever ship (after much struggle) just a while ago and found I wanted to make another.
Unfortunately I am terrible at making sprites :P
The idea I'm thinking of is a High Tech (Tri-Tach) frigate with a large weapon hardpoint (for an autopulse) and a single 360 small turret and 2 small missile slots.
If you manage to make a sprite for this (or find one) please post a reply below with the PNG attached to it.

P.S. I would prefer if the Large hardpoint was near the bottom (near the engines) but still facing forward, but if that can't be done that's fine.

Modding / Making a simple ship

I have had this game for a while and decided it was time for me to take a stab at the modding scene.
I already have a sprite and just need help on how to create the ship and get it into the campaign store (the actual name of the Orbital thing escapes me now).
Be warned I am completely new to modding and will need all the information such as how to script it and what I can use to script it (I would prefer notepad if possible, to keep it simple :P).
Help a Newbie! :D

I noticed the time between .35a and .5a was almost 6 months and I assume the time between the first idea of the game and .35a was even longer and was wondering if the updates would be coming out in similar time frames to these or a little quicker. (I understand getting a game started generally takes the most amount of time)

Or at least what do you think (hope) it will become.
Personally this game reminds me of Space Rangers 2, a game that I enjoyed very much as a child and will always remember as a great space game.
