Suggestions / Marines, the good, the better and the best.
« on: March 01, 2012, 05:44:24 PM »
So i was thinking, would it be possible to have different kind of marines just like crew. I was thinking somewhere along this line, first you got some kind of militia marine and vastly favored unit for independant ships and factions. They can be upgraded with a facility or special ship? Along with an armor set? which can become a normal marine with no powerarmor. They would be the mainstay of most major factions if not all. Hegemonian marines and Tri-Tach marines. You know the drill, regular trained soldiers. Then with a powerarmor? and a facility or special ship? you can train some marines with battleexperience? Or no battle experience? to make "Elite?" "Heavy?" or "Whatever other term deemed appropriate" Marine. You can always hire marines already trained to that lvl but they would be rarer then the militia marines you find everywhere.

This will make for a little more immersion, it would also be cool to scale the combat strength of the different units according to their numbers. Meaning that for instance 1 elite can't fight 10 militia men but 100 elite marines can take on 1000 if not more militia without much problem. The prices would ofcourse increase a bit and a healthy mixture of troops could feed this a bit to make it cheaper to get a slightly higher combat capability for your marines. Meaning their usefulness increases as the soldiers increase, for instance 1 elite and 2 militia against 5-7 regular marines, they could win where perhaps 1 elite and 1 regular could not even tough the regular might be 1.5 the strength of a militia or more.

I haven't really given it an in depth consideration but it would be extremely cool to have different troops for different abilities and perhaps uses as well:P Could go as far as to add heavy weapons marines and medics but that would be too much work and too many variations i believe.

So thats my suggestion, hope you like it. If anyone got any thoughts please expand on this:)

Suggestions / An idea for escorts
« on: February 28, 2012, 03:15:23 PM »
Ok, so basically i was sitting here thinking about how we could only assign one escort and we don't get to choose, i do however expect that it will be improved later on. However, i also thought of another thing. Could escorts work like fighter wings? I mean that they are in a way put together with an invisible leash even more then now. Also, when captains come, adding different behavior for different commanders. One escort commander will stick the escorted ship between itself and enemies while another could aim to soak up damage whenever the need is there. So on and so forth. Just an idea for the future:)

General Discussion / Marines besides bording question
« on: February 28, 2012, 01:15:10 PM »
Do they have any other use? Like the defense of ships post battle? I tried to capture one ship that killed a hundred marines and it was a cruiser in a decent large fleet. Then a bit later i captured a ship with 1400 crew members in a medium fleet in opposition to the 250 crew members on the other ship with 30 marines or is it just luck that decides everything? Also, do ai even have marines?

General Discussion / Best kill
« on: February 27, 2012, 09:13:51 AM »
Well here is a thread for the best kills ;D
Here is mine, i was playing a game with a modded ship. It is if i have to say it myself much better then the other frigates but nontheless. I was out of ammo after my fleet and his fleet clashed and only two ships survived, a carrier with half hp and my ship. Since i was out of ammo and he was pretty much filled with it i used some clever shield tricks absorbing missiles and point defense guns. Eventually he ran out of missiles, so i went in for the kill. 5 minutes later he was out of everything and almost dead due to my shield bumping. Eventually i managed to kill him. That was the most time consuming yet interesting kill i have ever had.

Bug Reports & Support / Fuel becomes infinite money
« on: February 25, 2012, 03:55:42 AM »
Basically if you have a stack of lets say 500 fuel, then the inventory of the station got 25 fuel in a stack, then you first drag the fuel stack down to the other stack. Add them to the stack and rescind the order with the other mouse button you will not only sell that amount of fuel but you will also get the same amount you sold and what you still got in your hand back into your inventory, so you still got 500 fuel but the stack in the station has turned either 500 or 499. Its a sure way to get cash fast and to multiply the amount of fuel around by a lot, just thought i would tip it seeing as its such a great income source, especially if you start with the fuel ship and i suppose its not a mechanic meant to be there:)
