Suggestions / Re: Gunning Decks (hull)

I fail to see how this is better gameplay-wise or more useful than a standard turret setup.

It isn't. But how often are heavy hitting ballistics or missiles, or heck, even energy weapons on turret  mounts. Most Large and medium emplacements are hardpoint, and while there are many medium turrets, they don't have anything like a 360 degree radius.

Isn't that what I said? And the other thing was not just aesthetics, but would it really be useful on multi-barrel guns?

Something I didn't think of- some weapons would look REALLY weird on gunnery platforms. Most of the double barreled turrets for example, or the hellbore, which is an example of an asymmetric weapon. And how useful would it be for those weapons. At the current time, all I can think of is missiles and Tachyon Lances.

As I said before, but this time I think I'll concentrate my point a little bit more:

This is a nice idea, and it is possible.

BUT.

Do the Devs, who already have enough on their plate, want to spend time working on a system that they didn't even think of (or so i think...), and put their own ideas to one side to work on said idea?

Probably not.

Hyph, no offense, but that's the POINT of a suggestions forum and an alpha. They SHOULD VIGOROUSLY take others' good ideas. This sounds awesome. Very interesting. Need 12 Tachyon Lance barrage cannon

Suddenly, the Atlas-class ISS Iceberg opens up it's cargo hold, and BOOM! Let's just say, there was a bit of a Titanic situation. But yeah, these should be very ragtag if implemented. Very easily damaged, can be damaged permanently, not as much ammo, higher accident chance, higher weapons recharges/cooldowns, worse mountings (i.e, mostly hardpoints, maybe bad angles as well), etc. The good thing about these, especially if you fit them with just s ton of firepower, is how much damage they might deal. Suffice to say, a converted Atlas may very well have more firepower than an onslaught. Especially when it's all just Typhoon Reaper Launcher. Give up cargo space, speed, maybe flux capacity (losing generators) and still using ordnance points (still cost the same, not more, but you are still capped).

It's going to be a 4X (or maybe 3X or something). Basically, it will be liken any lengthy space game, such as the X Series. And who says there won't be much better ships that will own your fleet. There will be more ships. You might have a full fleet, but other systems may have much more or something along those lines.

I went and had some fun with this. Let's just say, Atlas (most useless capital ship) at the speed cap, 100,000 hitpoints and armor, 1,000,000,000 flux capacity, 360 degree shield arc, and 1,000,000 mass flanked by about 20 high quality fighter wings with the entire fleet being elite is amazing. Also, the Atlas is called the ISS Iceberg. Why? Guess. So very inappropriate to crash into a Valkyrie (not the same thing as the titanic, but close enough). RAMMING SPEED. Also- fighters are for taking on other fighters. Or you could just auto-resolve after blowing up all the large ships.

Wait, so should I name it sprite.png, or *nameofshipgiveinnocaps*.png? I was confused about that. Also, thanks for the tip about folder separation! If it is supposed to be sprite, I know what I did wrong. I'll just test it. Thanks!

EDIT: Yay! renaming it sprite worked!

There's a much easier way. I don't remember exactly how you do it, but it's not too difficult nor is it uncommon. Just put yourself in devmode. Press K for 25000 credits, shift to move twice as fast. I'm sure there are many tutorials on this forum, sadly, I don't remember how it's done.

Yes, I kept the sprite in the graphics folder with the proper name (I think?). No new weapons, because they would require *gasp* coding, which I have no skill with currently. What additional directories might I need? The error says something about the classpath (iunno).

Modding / Question on Modding Error
« on: July 14, 2012, 10:00:43 PM »
Recently, I tried inserting a new ship into Starfarer. I made the image correctly and used trylobot's editor and exported in to the hulls file. I put the png in the ships sprites file as well. I also edited the ship_data.csv with the new data. However, whenever I try to start the game, I get an error about not being able to load a graphic. I think I messed up something pretty major, as I can't find anything else on the subject, meaning it's probably just my ignorance and something obvious. If not, I can provide a transcript of the error. Hopefully, that is not needed.

Thank you for reading this, and a you are amazing if you can solve this.

Also, there is *some* gravity around most combat points. Either the Corvus (the sun) or some of the planets. No, speed caps don't make sense. Who knows- maybe it's just an extremely poor propulsion system. Considering the setting, that doesn't sound so odd. And I doubt ships are actually launched from the ground anymore, so you don't think about the lack of thrust. Probably just undock from the station-shipyard. JUST LOOK AT THE DESIGN!

Also- OPNESS!!!!!111111111111!

But that would be a cool mod. Let's not forget, it sounds hilarious and fun, but in (mostly) all of the wrong ways.

Where in this post would anyone be offended? It's just feedback. And yes, the one with the 90% ballistic increase sounds out of place, especially compared to to other systems. Burn Drive is amazing! How could it be boring? At least you don't have to wait five minutes before anything happens if you want to use an Onslaught. Torpedo racks, also a bit out of place, not as bad as the increase, it could work, there's no PROBLEM with it, it just could be better. Yeah, agreeing. IMO, flares are ok. Very utilitarian. But I'm still a burn drive and teleportation fanboy.

They'd like you to think that.
Well I do think that.
There's a Douglas Adam's quote:

"Most people are in the business you think they're in. Xerox is actually in the business of selling toning cartridges. All this stuff about fancy new printers in to sell you toning cartridges... something about Sony... Most TV channels aren't in the business of delivering high quality content to you, but delivering advertisements instead."

It's a way of life. People are in the business of "moving around little green pieces of paper, which is odd, because the people are unhappy, not the slips of paper."
