they are everywhere and very very tiny: https://gineipaedia.com/w/images/2/21/Brunhild_guns(BD).jpg

well the ship is 1km long

https://gineipaedia.com/wiki/Br%C3%BCnhild#:~:text=The%20Br%C3%BCnhild%20(Japanese:%20%E3%83%96%E3%83%AA%E3%83%A5%E3%83%B3%E3%83%92%E3%83%AB%E3%83%88),,%20later,%20the%20Goldenl%C3%B6we%20throne.

32 main guns, rocket launcher plus "laser" which should be PD/anti fighter in this case which is not listed in numbers.
ahh yeah and like "all" ship of that faction they are also carrier so 1 or 2 fighter bays.
and well nukes just in case you known.

there are a couple of ships with a 4 to 1 ratio like the odyssey which has a clear shield issue.
maybe none omni with 2 shields to fix the "issue" that is very very fast in rising.

that sounds like a moded nex game.
i mean there is no real "ground combat" in starsector.
and the base game doesn't really care about memory.

the game pretty much tells you everything.
each ship has the information how much supplies it uses same for fuel usages the game also tells you the distance it even calculates your reach and shows you on the map.
get to close to a sun? the game tells you...
there is no point in telling you what to do in an open sandbox you do what ever you want.

General Discussion / starsector openGL performance test.
« on: July 26, 2022, 06:45:11 PM »
i would like to know if there is already a common way to test GPU performance on starsector so i can follow that.
the reason for that is that AMD is supposedly a little better with openGL now so i would like to do a proper test.

this test includes testing the CPU overhead of the GPU driver.

just to be sure i'm pretty alone with that the SN it is just fine as it is.

very high DPS highest tied with plasma cannon.
comparable short range.
good flux efficiency better than Mjolnir pretty much free compared to the PC.
comparable low range.

the kinetic part is a bonus for it thanks to the high fire rate armour is not that big of a deal.
high flux cost sorry i don't see it the stats say something different.
just to be absolutely clear here this thing does more dmg than two mark IX(i'm taking live numbers here) for less flux.
that leaves the totally justified OP cost combined with the lowest range of large kinetics.
the SN is also relative useful as a PD.
i really like that it is so unique.

if you can get in range this is all you need to kill the target.
i would argue that it is way to strong against stations too.

so how long does it take to grow from millions to 10 of millions?

the first grow steps can be easily explained by migration but when you reach millions that simply doesn't add up anymore.

Recall Device: now has a 30 second cooldown

NO. i guess i have to play doom again.
i was using this every 5-30 sec. i was using it sometime just to make sure they are in formations.
and yeah it was a bit strong just flying through an armada and pressing the DELETE key from time to time.

RIP Astral for been the strongest ship you will be remembered still good i guess.

edit: iw as thinking that phase transports where missing int he game (expesive upkeep but hard to detect/hard to catch) so i guess that only leaves one ship type missing and that's a mid line capital carrier.

Well, that's not actually true, is it? See: phase ships and capacitors being comparatively a much better choice on them than on other ships, due to their ability to maneuver in and out, making high alpha strikes (and thus caps) more effective. Any ship that can choose the engagement can benefit more from capacitors over vents, with phase ships being the most extreme example (and, granted, they also need extra flux capacity to close in effectively, but that's not the only reason caps are good on them.)
i have to disagree on this. i'm pretty fly the doom constantly (my doom fanaticism is so bad i'm getting bored of the game) and i would never take a cap over a vent on this ship and i'm over capping constantly and only 2-3 of my anti matter blaster totally worth is because thanks to the vent i can even at max flux "instantly" cloak again. even at 100 % it only take a very very short time to vent the ship.

i care about the time it takes to vent caps don't help me here and i rarely vent when i'm even close to 100% i'm venting at 1-30 % all the time.

but i'm personally think the system is currently working pretty good.

the real "issue" i see with ship layout is vents in general. except for carrier and none combat ships vents are pretty much always maxed there are always exceptions and i don't think this needs fixing.

over flux layout are done all the time like 4 anti matter blaster on a doom or 4 tachyon paragon which just burst very high and usually use more flux then the vents can handle. what ever that's worth i see that burst dmg in player hand is already very valuable.

as an RX 5700 Xt user i'm still daily used to the driver just crashing(usually not affecting the game anymore).
i have serious FPS problem in starsector even vanilla the GPU is not really doing anything when the game runs doesn't even use normal clock or anything but CPU load is very high. but as soon as you even name AMD you just get an "AMD can't do openGL" it's not like starsector is the only openGL game and the GPU isn't really doing anything but you can't get help on this forum to get deeper into it because you named AMD.

Are you also getting poor performance, with the CPU also not having any cores near 100% in combat?
i don't really get 100 % at single core but zen 2 are not easy to read...

i don't even understand what a performance GPU should be doing in this game.
this is not a judgement of the quality of the game.
darkest dungeon looks amazing great too but you clearly don't need a powerful GPU for this.

an intel iGPU can run this game fine and it is magnitudes slower then even an older RX 580.
i still have a couple of nvidia card laying around here i could test too. why should i my 5700 is taking a nap.

i can't recommend the NAVI series anyway. keep your finger of it if you like having a working PC. this will change with time but they are not there yet.
the current driver reports hardware decoding as hardware encoding...

so i may have issues with my 5700 XT because it is literally idling.
with idle i mean ~5% GPU load at ~160 mhz so not even close to 1 % load.

I can confirm that the RX 580 is extremely poor at Starsector considering its nominal power. A few years ago I upgraded my rig to it and it was no benefit despite being about 6 years newer than the card it was replacing. For contrast, I started playing SS on a mobo integrated GPU and it ran just fine (must have had decent openGL support).

can you please be a bit more precise why the GPU even matters i mean i have FPS problems with spark using an rx 5700 xt and i have my doubt the card is the problem if it runs at 60-200 mhz with no real GPU load.

are you hinting the openGL AMD driver is so bad that it needs a magnitudes more CPU cycle to do the same work as intel or nvidia and that's why it is slowing down?

i'm not here to defend the AMD driver which is at best horrendous i couldn't even use the card for 4 month thanks constant driver crashes but what is this card even doing in this game?
