Hello everyone.
I'd just like to know what Alex' stance on piracy is. I've been following this game for a few weeks, and at the moment it seems like I'll be buying it. However, before I do that, I'd like to see if the game will run on my laptop, and if I like the game.
Normally, I'd check steam, and see if there was a demo available, but as this is still in alpha, it's not on steam (yet?), and there is currently no demo.
Basically, I'd like your opinion on a few different "scenarios" of piracy. Here they come:
Can afford the game, knows it's good, knows it will run, pirates anyway.
Knows it's good, knows it will run, however cannot afford the game. Buys as soon as possible.
knows it's good, but doesn't know if it will run smoothly, and can't afford the game. Buys if the game runs smoothly as soon as possible.
Have only seen videos on youtube (or not at all), doesn't know about how the game runs, but can actually afford it. Uses the pirated copy as a demo. Will buy if good, and if it runs smoothly.
Have at most seen videos on youtube, doesn't know about the quality of the game, or the requirements. Does not have the money at hand. Will use as a demo, and if good enough, will buy the game when the money is there.
Personally, I'll be in the third category. I like space combat games, especially top-down. I have a beast of a desktop, and if the game doesn't run at at least 30 FPS with everything on high/max, something is wrong with the game. My parents are divorced, however, and I cannot bring my desktop with me to my mother's place. I use a laptop sporting a 2.2 GHz singlecore processor (I know, but it's mostly used for school and programming Java programs) and a intel graphics card. The graphics card is surprisingly powerful, but the processor is lacking.
The computer has been manufactured by Packard Bell, but I have uninstalled their stuff, so that is not a problem. I have windows 7 installed, and quit most of the running processes when I'm about to play games.
Basically, I'm hoping that you're feeling the same way that Notch does, and will allow piracy of your game as long as the game is bought when the pirate has the money. I did the same thing with skyrim (I can actually prove it, I still have the crack of it^^), and own it on steam at the moment.
I hope to hear from you soon, and look forward to eventually playing your game
EDIT: By the way, I have not even started looking for a crack of the game, but if Alex is okay with it, I'll start. Also, if at all possible, another solution would be a 7 day cd-key so I can try the game for a short while.
