Nvidia's Shield
« on: May 22, 2013, 01:00:31 PM »

Hey guys,
Has anyone else been following this nifty device? The capabilities look pretty good and having Micro SD support is really nice. They just opened up pre-orders and I'm thinking of getting it. What do you guys think?

In the words of TotalBiscuit, "Stop pre-ordering things!"

Hold back, wait for reviews from trusted sources, then if you still think you'd find it useful and aren't put off by the $350 price point, go ahead. But be sure to ask yourself, when would you use it, or would you actually use something else in those situations (ie. the PC it's streaming from or some other mobile gaming device)? Unless you're a multi-millionaire, $350 is a big investment in something you might not use extensively.

Well I wasn't going to necessarily pre-order, but the price is somewhat high, but no outrageous. I'm a little wary cause of how bad the Razer Edge turned out.

Yes, I definitely want to stare at a miniature screen while playing a game.

Imagine Starsector in 1024x768 on this screen and having to read any text. Wish you loads of fun, but it's just another case of "why would I need that?" I just can't see when this would actually be something useful. It does what other things already do, and not even better.

Guys, it's $349 for the best Android tablet money can basically buy right now. That's worth it, it's realistically quite cheap.

Except it isn't a tablet...

The screen is just too small, I'll just use my Macbook and Bootcamp Windows to play games.

I'll stick with my desktop and laptop. the shield looks very bulky for a portable device, plus, not so sure about the specs and range of games i could play on it.
