Spoiler
I was thinking, since there are quite a lot of good writers here, it would be nice to stir it up a bit and make a story contest
Actually, I would really like to add a section for short stories in the manual (see sig). So the best stories that come out of this, the winners if you will, could go in that section.
Before anything can be done I need your opinions, obviously. Writers, would you be up to it? What about details: should there be a specific theme? How should the time limit be? Should the stories be graded by popular vote? What should the lenght limit be?
Post what you think!
Ok, I think there is enough interest to do this
I will set the rules now, if you think there's anything fundamentally wrong with any of them let me know (asap).
- Stories have to be submitted via PM to Gothars until
December 10. No public posting please.
- There is no
mandatory registration, but it would be nice if you could send me a timely PM if you plan to participate
- The maximum word count is 1000 words. There is no minimal word count.
- It is allowed to re-use (and re-model) already written stories. They still have to fit the theme, though. It is also allowed to use (not too big) pictures, but that will subtract from the word count. Deviating formats like poems, comics, ballads or graphic novels are also allowed, the limit is about three A5 (or 1.5 A4 =normal) pages.
- You can submit up to three entries
The topic this time will be:
History Use the frame of a story to describe an event in the (canon) history of the sector, for example the closing of the gates, arrival of the Hegemony fleet, the fall of the Exar system or something different. Tip: A subjective perspective allows for a broader margin of canon-error.
If this whole thing is a success we will make more contests with other themes
The stories will be judged twofold:
- On the 10th (or shortly after) I will open a new (secret) poll and post all stories to be judged by popular vote. The poll will be open for 2 weeks (subject to change).
- I (and possible a co-judge, applications per PM please) will decide which story will go into the manual. Judges can still write, but their stories are obviously exempt from this form of judgement. The result might be somewhat influenced by the popular vote. It also might deviate due to different criteria, we will see.
