Thing about making the double cannon integrated with the longbow, you should at least make the barrels separate for recoil.

Hmm... right now they look a bit like pimpmobiles.

Too much gold....
EDIT: Second thought, waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too shiny. If they had a dark and gritty look without shiny gold colouring they'd look great.

That's not gold... That's rust.

Decided not to make the cannon integrated.

Giving the shiny white ships more depth by adding darker shadows around the edges.

The Trans-U Transport:

Perfect ship if you want to disable smaller vessels and loot or capture them. It is a dated design. Larger than the Firefly. Less maneuverable, but just as fast. Bigger cargo hold and able to hold more crew. The grappling claw actually fires a fast magnetic pulse. A gun can also be mounted ontop of the ship, just like the Firefly. Allowing the player to pick off small targets, disable and then destroy them. The Reaver version also gets an extra slot, making it more of a combat ship. A forward mounted harpoon.

Scale comparison:

A few more pictures of the Trans-U, Reaver version:

I left out the wings/ spikes welded ontop of the ship. I also provided more of a snub nose instead of a pointy one. Having made the nose too blunted is my only regret. Though there are versions out there with a blunt nose instead of a pointy one.

Shame the side view gets lost in this top down 2d setting. The Trans-U has an awesome shark like snout on the Reaver version.

Which would you rather fly? A civilian Trans-U, or a civilian Firefly?

The Trans-U has a faster firing magnetic pulse weapon. The pulse itself is also a lot faster. The Trans-U has the same hull mounted AA gun the Firefly mounts. Both ships roughly are equally fast. Though the Trans-U is a lot less maneuverable. Both ships have about the same armor rating, but the Trans-U has about 30% more hull integrity. The Firefly has better Flux though.

The Firefly is smaller and more maneuverable than the Trans-U. Making it a smaller target. They are roughly of the same speed though. The Firefly can fire more magnetic pulses, thanks to higher Flux, though they are spread over a longer time period, since the Trans-U can fire more rapidly. The Trans-U's pulses also move faster. Both have the same hull mounted AA gun. The armor rating is roughly the same, though the Trans-U has about 30% more hull integrity.

To further illustrate the difference between a civilian Trans-U and a Reaver Trans-U:
A Reaver version would be slightly faster, thanks to its uncontained core, and lesser mass. It gets less mass because it lacks armor plating. This means the Reaver Trans-U has a bit less armor, but it does have equal hull integrity. Having an uncointained core means it needs less minimum crew to operate. It also means it has slightly less maximum crew, since the living conditions are lethal. Still, being originally a cargo vessel, it still offers reasonable space for a boarding crew. The ship also has easier Flux venting, thanks to its uncointained core. This means it can fire its weapons more often. It also has an extra weapon: a forward mounted harpoon.

In short:
-slightly faster
-less mass
-less armor
-less minimum crew required
-less maximum crew
-faster flux venting
-extra weapon

Trans U

Reaver Trans-U? :)

Here's a video on Reavers, including Firefly flying under a Reaver Trans-U.

The next ship will be difficult. Images on this ship are hard to find. I've even watched the movie again trying to get a better look but... It rarely gets screentime.

Bernard-class SAR Vessel

A small transport. Wish me luck.  ;)

The Bernard-class Salvage and Rescue vessel was a small (1800 ton) ship designed for emergency rescue operations in space and on planetary surfaces. The cargo bay could be quickly converted to hold passengers, but it most often operated as a tug and was provided with magnetic grapplers that could pull most medium-sized vessels. The Bernard was a very durable ship that was meant to operate in hazardous areas. The hull was strengthened to resist minor collisions and the interior was designed for maximum containment during a hull breach.

Unfortunately, these qualities also made the ship prized for less-than-humanitarian goals. Several Bernards had responded to distress calls only to be captured by Reavers and refitted for their savage purposes.

Nice image of an Alliance fleet facing off a Reaver Fleet, just off Mr. Universe's planet:

Actually, that battle will be a playable mission in the mod.  8)

This is looking rather awesome, although I do think the Reaver ships look a bit too clean, they need more gruesome and savagery done to them :P

Is Firefly like Battlestar Galactica?

Well, both are rather hard sci-fi, so there are similarities in that regard
