I was plaing .71a but the the screen started flipping and my chrome browser closed by itself.

I was using nexerelin, SS+ without audio, lazylib and shaderlib with effects off.

well, I have intel 4000 hd graphics, with a working driver. Its only when I started up SS did it start happening.

The Starsector Plus mod's forum thread (top of the 1st post) explicitly states that it is not guaranteed to function unless you have allocated at least 2 GB of RAM (preferably, even more) to the game's Java. Have you done this? If not, this might explain your current problem when trying to use SS+.

did I do it right?
I modified vmparams:
-Xms2g -Xmx4g -Xss1g

but did not change starsector.bat:
-Xms1024m -Xmx1024m -Xss1024k

but even then would it start screwing up my screen orientation?

You increased -Xss by about 1000x.  You should probably leave it as 4m or something.

I always figured it should be easier to find how to allocate more ram in Starsector for the mods.

It took me a lot of searching to finally find a post from three years ago about doing it. Unless I'm just blind?
