How is DP distributed?

Right now I am doing a play through with a max battle size of 60.

But its strange sometimes i get 10DP max and sometimes 40.

??????

I THINK the AI gets up to 60% of the DP and if all combat ships are deployed you get the rest, but I might not be sure.

It's based on the ratio of either ships, logistics points, or deployment points (not sure which) of the two fleets. If you have more ships/whatever you get more DP in the battle. There's a cap, which is IIRC 1.5x. If you outnumber them more than 1.5x you still only get 1.5x the DP.
