What Determines "Threat Rating"?
« on: January 25, 2015, 03:29:43 PM »

So I swapped two Archer Missile Destroyers for 6 Basileus Missile Frigates and noticed that hostile fleets that reacted "neutrally" now run away from me. The AI apparently finds 2 specialized destroyers less threatening than 6 converted freighters.

So what determines how dangerous a fleet is?

What is your total Fleet Point value before and after? That is one of the main ways the game determines what is a threat or not

I am pretty sure it's about the fleet points not what type of ships. But I could be wrong  ;D

That might have explained how large Atlas-fleets have managed to slip through the pirate barricades unscathed, or it could just be the large escorts they've been backed with.

6 Basileus have 4 DP each so that's 24.
Then there's an Aural and a Torch for 14.

That makes 38 total I suppose.

Numerical superiority is very scary in Starsector because each ship is balanced out by needing periods of vulnerability, and because focus fire is difficult due to how the AI acts. Just food for thought.

For warmongers, they can optimize a single small ship or two, and slaughter fleets much bigger than them.  Enemy fleet jumps on your lone ship, your ship slaughters them, and the rewards roll in.  The less you have, the less fleets will run away from you.
