option to start as pirate
« on: November 17, 2014, 03:59:00 AM »

right now, you can be a trader, bounty hunter and smuggler.
What I really miss, is starting as a pirate. I went with the smuggler, but I am hostile with
pirates and I am killing loads of enemies of the pirates, but I can only increase my relationship with them
with trade, which takes ages. (With my other character I got +100 with one or two factions just
by murdering pirates; right now I am at -62 or something with pirates although I sold lots of
stuff to them :(

starting relations with pirates should be neutral or above, if someone selects the "I am pirate"
route.

That's my next try since i've pretty endgamed my current save, but it would be cool to start with say a Brawler or a Lasher with instant pirate-friendlies.

well if you want some hints, because I got up to welcoming with the Pirates :)
Spoiler
1) you need to get out of the "hostile" area, because as soon as you get inhospitable to the pirates, killing enemies of them in system they have bases gives you + rep. Basically, it is a cakewalk after that.

2) now to get there probably the best way is to sell fuel to Barad A or B (Corvus System). Usually there is a trade disrupted message, read it and most often supplies and fuel are up. So if you sell em like 100-300 fuel, you should get about 2-3 rep points. The great thing about fuel:

a) even a small tanker can carry 350 fuel, also augmented engines don't take away that amount (maybe a "bug", cause 25 % of cargo space is lost with normal ships),

b) you don't use fuel in "normal flight",

c) trade fleets that carry fuel (see the info and or if they have a tanker in the ship list, they are red) can be easily targeted, d) sometimes medium mercenary fleets carry tankers with them.
