My current problem...
« on: October 23, 2014, 02:05:26 PM »

Spoiler
[close]

This is basically how every high-tech planet's shipyard looks. No cruisers at all, except a couple Ventures, Herons, and Falcons on a few of the places, and only rarely. (Admittedly I had and lost two Eagles due to 360 flameout spins in the middle of enemy fleets) Despite this, there is almost always at least one, if not two capitals sitting around. I realize that ships and resources got a lot more scarce, but this seems really odd.

Another problem I have is that even if I did go and buy a capital, I would never be able to outfit it. I tried to buy an Onslaught and I flew all around to every base and I didn't find even a quarter of the weapons necessary to give it a respectable fitting. I even have trouble fitting frigates sometimes.

So, is anyone else experiencing a similar shortage of stuff, or is it just me?

I haven't had too much trouble outfitting my stuff the way I want it, but I've noticed the overpopulation of Onslaughts as well.

That looks like a hegemony base, not a Tri-tachyon one. As far as I know (although I haven't gotten hugely far in the new update yet), they're the only high-tech faction in vanilla, the rest is pirates and medium or low-tech.

I've had a bit of trouble outfitting my ships without a number of black market acquisitions though.

They probably have so many on sale because they forgot to build the weapons to outfit them with!

Even the Tri-Tachyon base may not be full of high-tech ships.  Much of the ships I saw by the time I got access were more of the same as found in other systems.  I saw an Odyssey, and a Doom, but the rest are typical low tech and mid-line stuff (Falcon, Hammerhead, Sunder, Lasher, and the like... and more open market junk).

After thirty levels, I am still stuck in my starter Wolf because I cannot find any better high-tech ship - no Tempest, no Hyperion, no Medusa, no Aurora/Apogee (and no Astral/Paragon, but I cannot use it anyway without Leadership).

I have not found Light Needlers anywhere!

I saw a medusa once on the black market, and could buy it!
It ended up having the most mishmash collection of mounts ever though, since I'd taken the parts off two of my wolfs to make it work.

I agree that cruisers, especially high tech ones, are a PAIN to find! Hell I had a paragon before I found my Apogee

I have not found Light Needlers anywhere!
It's my own generally accepted opinion that, if few (or no) ship variants have a weapon mounted on them, then it's nearly impossible to get them.  For example, with the Batavia mod, it's nearly impossible to get my hands on the L-01 Draak because only one ship variant uses it.

And yea, I've been searching around for some suitable cruisers for a while now.  I might just resort to pillaging Tri-Tachyon fleets and hoping for a chance to board an Apogee or an Aurora.  Not to say a Dominator isn't good - I just like having a bit of variety in my fleets.

Also, I've seen a Tempest or two in Kanta's Den in Magec - probably due to it's close proximity to the only Tri-Tachyon base in the game and the healthy supply of Independents-turned-pirates coming from both the station and the planet.  Never bothered with them, though - they eat supplies endlessly, and I'm not the best micro-pilot either.

I've been able to find a few light needlers, but you know what I can't find? Swarmers! I got one in battle after wasting a Dram, but I haven't been able to find more.

What I really want is a Medusa and/or Aurora.  Peak performance kills any frigate.  Capital ships are too slow and eat too much.

Tri-Tac and everywhere else looks exactly the same. An Odyssey/Paragon, maybe a couple Medusas if I'm lucky, and then the usual rubbish. I can confidently say that more capitals are currently on sale than cruisers, and the cruisers that are, are pretty rubbish ones.

Speaking of Medusas, I've actually been able to board and take 3 Medusas in a short war (~2 in-game months) with the Tri-Tachyon (who, mind you, are still inhospitable towards me after cleaning some bounties :P).  Sold them off, though - they're just too squishy in my eyes and are poorly handled by the AI.

Hint - attack some high-tech fleets and board any ships you can get.  Worked that way with me.

I have decent rep with Tritach and their Military regularly has medusas and apogees on offer. There's a level of randomness to what's available each game and inventories do seem to update infrequently.

From my current campaign:

I've encountered a Tempest once - in a bounty fleet. Saw one Shade in the store. No Omens or other phase frigates. Wolves seem pretty common, though.

The TT planet in Magec had two Paragons and an Aurora. Think I got my Medusa there as well. Getting large energy weapons to actually fit the Paragon with, though, was harder than expected.

For the other destroyers, Enforcers, Hammerheads and Sunders all seem quite available (though often damaged).

Never saw a Conquest, Odyssey or Apogee.

Eagles were quite rare, but I've been able to buy two so far. Dominators are reasonably common. Think I saw one Venture for sale in my whole playthrough. Sindrian had four Herons in stock at one point.

PD Lasers and Burst PD Lasers are scarce. LR PD Lasers, though, grow like mushrooms. LMGs are also way more common than dual LMGs or Vulcans.

Pilums dominate the medium missiles. Harpoon pods show up now and then, but I think I've seen one Sabot pod and Annihilator pod, and no Salamander pods.

I think the problem with certain ships being unavailable is that the markets aren't updating enough
