Sad to say it but game was fine memery leak got me I found a way to only bounty hunt all you needed was a lot of heavy fighters and bombers 1 carrier 2 destroyers and all the fights you could handle with your skills I was on a role I was taking 200k bountys not lost a ship fights just keep coming out the carrier in mass. Reapers kill most ships out right had 4 units in my fleet thay were sick. I'm deeply sad end that the memery leak stoped me from play more. Please please fix the leak make it your prority

If you've found a memory leak please create a thread in the Bug Reports section of the forums and put as much related info as possible so Alex can track it down.

It may be because of your hardware, though. But this thread is not the place for discussing that kind of stuff.

Yeah, fighters are really good at not dying. :P Or rather, not staying dead.

I don't think there are any anti-fighter or -missile variants for the AI to use, so they don't have much to counter fighter spam with.

There are PD variants (I think they're only regulated to frigates though) that have good anti-fighter capabilities. They're usually only used as escorts by AI fleets though.

I think there's a PD Medusa variant, too, but yes, a lot of the larger ship types look a bit light on point defenses and it seems that there might not be enough available setups for dedicated PD ships for providing a PD umbrella.

Players can bring out an extremely deadly PD Paragon variant against squadrons, missles, and as far as frigates with proper loadouts. As for AIs... I don't think I'll see a PD specialist cruiser and capital classes that renders sizes up to frigates useless. Beams can very deadly as PD roles. Guardian PD does that best, while tactical beams can help beat out anything too close (with integrated PD). Gravitons pressures flux into the shields... and High Intensity snipes out crippled stragglers... or switched to Plasma Cannons to surprise-overload ships.

I've chosen to mod my own Starsector install by personally creating new anti-missile, anti-fighter, assault, strike and support variants that fill numerous gaps in the game. This makes the various factions less of a push-over, which is especially welcome after I have levelled-up well above 30. Sure, it often makes the early game too tough at times, but perhaps that will ease somewhat after the inevitable follow-up patch to 0.65a arrives.

The thing which first motivated me to do this was the overall scarcity of Point Defense variants, or effectiveness of same for those which did exist. That hole in pre-made ship variant choices is easily exploitable by the human player. It bothered me because that's a substantial vulnerability and it prevents a more nuanced battle experience for my satisfaction. And somewhat like our renowned comrade Megas, satisfaction is important to me.

you are playing them wrong then..

Don't tell me I'm playing anything wrong in a singleplayer sandbox game. Just don't.

A dedicated PD variant for the Falcon is quite fun on occasion.
The full benefit of this is not fully realized until cruiser availability is somewhat less starvation-scarce than it is right now, though. ;)

Fair enough. For now, I'll be out there rockin' in my Afflictor to inject a lethal dose of anti-matter to the rear of ships distracted by the defensive fleet. No Phase Destroyer in vanilla yet, but one can wish and wonder how messed up the balancing will be.  ;D

Been playing this new version for a while now but still old habits die hard.

The interface for items was flipped over from last version and I accidentally jettisoned all of my supplies, fuel and other loot I had while in the middle of hyperspace. Sad thing is this wasn't the first time it happened but this time it ended up costing me some ships :(

Raiding Luddite trade fleets. No-one cares that I do it, and it brings in absolutely huge amounts of food. Like taking down one will net me in the region of 1000-2000 food. The defenses are pretty pathetic. Does anyone know if trade fleet escorts ramp up over time in the way that patrols do?

I got a success :
As a bounty hunter, almost ran out of credit until some food shortages came up, saved my fleet :)
Jangala and Asharu in Corvus are both offering pirate bounties at the same time, so i got a lot of credit taking down pirate traders.

I've got a "success."

I was running a trade fleet of three Cerberi (including one D), 8 or 10 Shuttles (mostly Hermes, may have had a Mercury or two as well), and one or two Buffaloes. Dropped out of hyperspace at a gas giant, and basically landed on a pirate fleet, which attacked me. I thought no big deal, they only had a Cerberus, a Hound, and a pair of Broadswords, and so I deployed all of my shuttles and Cerberi to deal with the problem. I did win, but things would have gone a bit better had I remembered to actually arm all of my ships; about half the Shuttles were completely unarmed, and one of the undamaged Cerberi didn't have anything in its medium mount. Oops. Lost two Cerberi (the D and the fully-armed one in good condition, because of course I remembered to fully arm the D but not the other good one), and three Shuttles, but all three shuttles and one of the Cerberi (fortunately the good one, not the D) were restored to a functional state after the fight. On the plus side, the first station I arrived at had a Buffalo for sale, which in my opinion was a more than adequate replacement for my losses, and I'd been hoping for something to cut down on fuel use in shipping runs anyways that didn't significantly increase my crew requirements.

Not so much a success as it is an awesome string of events. Well, maybe that could be a success, too!

First, I decide I'm going to start stashing food on Volturn for when it goes into crisis so I buy up over a 1000 units of food at Jangala and head to Arcadia... well, no sooner do I go into hyperspace than Volturn goes into crisis and I sell my Jangala bought food and then make a few food runs from Sindria to Volturn for more yummy credits and trade XP. Then, I get a message that a high credit bounty popped up in Corvus and since I enjoy combat tons more than flying around the strategic map I decide I'll go do that.

So I power over to Corvus to take on the bounty fleet, arrive, and *BAMMO* Jangala and Asharu both put up their own bounties within like a min of each other, lol. I end up taking on the bounty fleet, get the reward money and then the bounty money from Jangala and Asharu on top of it... think it came out to like 450,000 credits. But wait, there's more! A bit after the bounties were over, Asharu went into food crisis. 'Twas a very lucrative session, lol
