I don't mind in the least helping people. PM me if you'd like help getting it to run on liunx, I'll gladly assist you as I can. That and I don't have anything else to do really. =3=;

Thanks for the offer, but my Windows machine is significantly more powerful. The only reason I wanted to set it up on Ubuntu was to test my mission maker.  :) Luckily you did it for me.  :)

So I've recently got missionmaker, only problem is when I export a mission (in my case straight into the ingame missions folder), add its name to the mission_list.csv, when I load the game with said mission, I get greeted by this:

Fatal: Error compiling [data.missions.afflictorbattletest.MissionDefinition]
Cause: File 'data/missions/afflictorbattletest/MissionDefinition.java' Line 14
Collumn 42: Cannot determine simple type name "MissionDefinitionPlugin"
Check starsector.log for more info

So, any help would be appreciated!

Not to dampen the attempts at modding but... This thread has been dead for 2 years.  You may just want to try your hand at mission making in the standard form.  That and the maker was made for version 0.7 or so i think. Not sure honestly.

If anyone did want to have another go at making a gui mission editor, the ideal approach would be as an IDE plugin where you parse & manipulate the AST directly.

Not only would it trivialize the actual generation of the source code, but it'd allow much better inter-operability with changes made by hand (both before & after code generation).
It'd be a big job though, and wouldn't save very much time unless you're creating many extremely elaborate missions.
