Back in the day, I used to play a game called Fleet.  It was a massive multilayer top down action shooter strategy game set in space where the Titan and Collective navies battled for supremacy in the Sol Systems Asteroid Belt.

One of the largest ships was a Frigate.  They were the swiss army knife of the game, corvettes, bombers, destroyers and enemy defense satellites fell easily to this vessel.  It took 3 human players to man the thing.  One piloted, another was the weapon controller, (which dealt with all forward guns but also dealt with sensors stealth and damage control, the last guy was a turret gunner who could fire long range missiles.  This ship was a beast and cost alot of build points .

But it was super weak against enemy gunships.  Gunships literally cost nothing, have high maneuverability and could easily dance into missile range of a frigate and drive it away.  It only took two or three of em to get the job done.  So frigates learned to have corvette and fighter support.

What I'm getting at is:  Having ships that excel in a specific job is preferable to having balance between all types of ships.  It promotes multiple hull size and layout usage and varying tactics.  The real issue should be "Why the hell didn't the AI order an intercept against my bombers?!"  Or  "Why didn't the AI have a light escort on their eagle?"

Fleet! Oh man! I've not heard of anyone who's played that so many years ago... This is a little off topic comment but I just can't resist putting it out there. I was Its A Combat Carl... loved my scout and just harassing enemy frigates with my tiny little warshrike missiles. It was fairly easy to carefully maneuver out of the way of the turret fire to just slowly wear them down till they retreated or support arrived to finish the job. It was the destroyers and command carriers with their flak that was more dangerous. :)

Oh snap, I was a regular as well and was on the Fleet forums as "Feses" damn I was childish back then.  Yeah I remember you, as I was usually the frigates WC or a corvette.

Weren't we all childish back then? :P Yeah, I remember you as well... I still miss that game, and I think the way Starfarer does play just keeps reminding me of those good times... and keeping with the topic of this thread, fighters and bombers can and should be a bit threat to larger cruisers and capital ships if they don't have any fighters or PD craft to support them. A fleet is only as good as the sum of its parts, so if it's lacking parts to make up the body of it, it just won't function as ably as other fleets, even if those opposing fleets are made up of 'lesser' craft.

Yes it's should be punished but not with just 1 sweep of 2 wing bombers ----> KABOOOM.

Because the Reaper torpedo is a 550mm torpedo...

A Naval torpedo of that size is armed with about 400kg (don't quote me on that) of high explosives and has a weight of 2-3 tons
or, if it happens to be a nuclear one... it's comparable to an 10 megaton bomb

and i doubt that they will use torpedo's with regular TNT in it...

Yes, but strengthened alloys tinijuna-elonrijeda and even with 7 layers titancarbonit can fully absorb the explosion of 50 megatons...  8) Scifi rulezs  ;D

@Qloos  I think it's to harsh and bigger ships should be more durable against torpedo/missiles.

@Zapier He didn't forgot. He was attacked by 2 Bomb wings and destroyed. But he fight ONLY against them. Is that ship that awful against fighters/bombers?
